1ENGLISH ASSIGNMENTS
Part 1
The Andes plane crash has been one of the worst miserable memories of my life. This is
why I am writing this personal account to make my memories fresh of that incident. The
condition became so much critical that we could not think of taking a proper decision. It is
because there was a terrible and freezing cold. We found that many of our friends had died in
that region. We felt very much helpless and we had got nothing to eat in that situation.
There were only two options left before us. The first was to die a slow death by
surrendering to the freezing condition in the nature. The second one was that we had to eat the
flesh and meat of our dead co-passengers since there was no food available in the area we were
in. We had to become the cannibals in order to save our lives. The flight was carrying us to Chile
for a match as we were the rugby players. The Andes valley came to be known as the Valley of
Tears from that time onwards. This experience could be compared to hell in many ways (Read
2012). One of our co-passengers were Roberto Cannessa who came to be known as one of the
best pediatric cardiologists in the country. Many photographs had been printed in the several
Chilean newspapers that the half-eaten limbs of the human body had been lying here and there
across the valley of Andes.
We, all the people who survived the crash and our families still live in the Carrasco
suburb. The place is located in Uruguay near the capital of Montevideo. We had left with very
few options to survive and we only took the only way i.e. to eat up the limbs of our dead friends.
We knew Holy Jesus Christ might never forgive us but it was better to live in that way than to
surrender to death. The only things we had there were the square of a chocolate, a dab of
toothpaste, a teaspoon of jam, a deodorant that was capful of wine.
