2 ENGLISH ESSAY Section B : 1. Logic has no role to play when it comes to making decisions. In fact, it is emotions that drive our decision-making abilities. 2. Taleb says that human beings are emotional when it comes to escaping from dangers. The stand point provided by Taleb is correct as we are guided by our emotions most of the time. For example, people often don’t remember that diabetic patients should avoid sweets. However, if there near and dear ones fall sick or have a heart attack then they understand that they should be careful too. Hence, once a person is struck emotionally he or she accepts the fact more readily. 3. The effects of the deadly attack offollowed even after it was over. People were so petrified after the terrorists attack that they started travelling by cars instead of taking flights. 4.Taleb points out that humans do not give much importance if lesser number of people die. The more the number of deaths, the greater is the fear and concern. It is ironic as hardly newspapers have headlines when a person meets with an accident but the moment there is a terrorist attack people become alerted. 5. The fear and terror of the September 11 attack stayed in the mind of the people and they decided to travel in cars instead of traveling in planes. This increased the rates of death on the roads but this incident never made to the headlines. Yes, I agree because humans do not understand the severity of a situation until and unless it happens to a larger number of people. Section C:
3 ENGLISH ESSAY As Thomas Jefferson rightly once said, “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom”. Every human is endowed with the basic value of honesty (LeBlanc, McConnell, and Monteiro 2015). Whether we follow the path of honesty or dishonesty that is completely upto us. A person who is dishonest cannot be trusted by anyone. Moreover, everyone has to pay the price of being dishonest. Dishonest people have to live with regrets and guilt forever. Today, the world is full of corrupted and dishonest people. Qualities like honesty, simplicity and kindness are a rare thing these days. Nobody can trust a dishonest person. A man does not earn the respect of other if he is not honest. Moreover, dishonest people find it harder to maintain and keep relationships as they go around breaking other’s trusts. A honest man has a strong character and is valued more than someone who takes pleasure in dishonesty (Rapoport 2013). Someone who repeatedly tells lie cannot be in anyone’s good books. At the end, truth always triumphs over evil and lies. Therefore, “dishonesty is never the best policy”. People who are dishonest can get only momentary happiness and success but those who are honest they are always peaceful and happy.
