“Problems related to the cultural values in Malaysia”
INTRODUCTION
Malaysia in believably a diverse country, that contain various ethnicities, languages and
religions so there is a rich variety of lifestyle, beliefs and values that reflect Malay people. The
majority of Malaysians are Malays those are Muslim that explain the ethnicity is commonly
considered to as 'Muslim Malay'. But this country is a multi-cultural society that have different
population specially Chinese and Indians and have small population of Indonesians, Nepalese,
Filipinos and Europeans (Andaya and Andaya, 2016). Now these days it is noted that people in
Malaysia are not following the values that let country down.
In this essay report, the negligent of youth toward Malaysians values is been discussed
and because of this country is facing various issues. For different problem the proper suggestion
are made in this report.

In the past last few years it has been observed that younger generation of Malaysia is
distracting because of different reason such as not proper guidance, lack of education etc. that led
to downward of Malaysian values. It is observed that negative behaviour by some youth towards
Malaysians values prove that there is an urgent need to review that national campaign that will
promote politeness and develop noble value among the youth. It is ascertained that may children
are not even trying to follow basic cultural and values that is have a bad impact over the country
economy. Some of the basic example is that many times it is noted specially in school that at
several occasion children these days do not want of prepared to say “thank you” when they are
awarded any reward or presented any certificate.

The rules and regulation related to traffic in Malaysia is very high and everyone is bounded to
follow those rule as government has build a strong charge against for people those break these
rules. But it is very usual to see that young children do not have fear for breaking traffic rules

and it is notice that many of them just rush their car in red light also, even park their vehicle
obstructing yellow boxes on the road and that parking area is not designated for them (Hill and
Lian, 2013).
It is highly restricted in Malaysia to smoke in public area and government have
developed strict guidelines for those smoker that fume in common place such as garden, bus
stops, stadiums etc. In recent time it is determined that smoking is becoming one of the major
problem in younger generation of Malaysia. In fact these youth personality does not even see the
areas where smoking id prohibited that led to problem for other and immense the image of
country as a whole.
Malaysians culture is rich in various tradition that are common Malay, Indian and
Chinese as the main races in country and some more such as Bumiputera of Sabah and Sarawak
that live and represent Malaysia. They all come together to form different cultural value in
Malaysia and people are bounded to follow these values for the upliftment of country. Various
values help tourist to better understand about the cultural of Malaysia and made them
comfortable in foreign country (Nga and Wai Mun, 2013). There are various cultural values that
are being followed by common people living in Malaysia and their continuous practice make
tourist to adopt these different cultural values. But in recent time it has been observed that youth
of Malaysia has downgrade the standard of cultural values that have an adverse impact on
country economy. For example, it is very common in country that people always open their
shoes, slipper before entering their house that is a good sign about their culture. As wearing
shoes in indoor in rude, offensive and it makes house clean and dirt free. In recent year it is been
observed by the elder people that their children are not up to mark and do not open their shoes
while going inside the house. That is a big issue for their parent as youth are not following the
Malaysians values and decreasing its value in front of tourist.
It is very common to see in Malaysia that people eat food with their right hand that
represent culture in a good manner and influence other to outside person to follow this value.
Behind this concept of eating food is very crucial such as finger represent five unique connection
with nature like for finger is air, ring finger is earth, mid finger is fire, little finger represent
water and thumb is a way of aiding the digestion. Imbalance of any these may lead to any
diseases or disorder so Malaysian people force their children and try them to eat food with hand.
But as a result younger generation of country are disobeying the cultural value by not eating food

with hand. As in Malaysia the number of fast food corner are increasing day by day and children
are more addicted toward eating food from these corner. So, they are moving away from the
basic Malaysians values that is a recent and biggest issue in country.
With the introduction of digital technology had led to the downward grade of moral value
of youth in Malaysia. As instead of spending quality time with their family youth are more
bounded to spend time in front of mobile an computer. Because of this they are becoming more
self absorbed and not interested any any activity happing around them. Parent are not able to
guide them to develop manner and understanding about cultural value within children.

Malaysia is struggling to overcome its problem of decreasing value of culture in youth
and that diminish the image of country in world. Value are vital element in all culture and its
awareness can be seen one of the crucial part of intercultural competence. Cultural adaptation
was found to be one of the most challenging action among multi-ethnic youth. Some of the major
challenge arise because of decreasing values in children is that they started behaving as a bigger
person as a result it may led to conflict with there parent (Rahman and Khambali, 2013). There
may be diminishing image of country in the world because disobey of youth. Malaysia is famous
for it various beautiful cultural heritage and monument and every year there are number of
tourist are attracted to visit country. But as a when cultural value among the youth is low that
would represent country in negative a way in front of tourist and they would start ignoring the
place. One of the major drawback of neg ligation of cultural value is that it led the economy to
fall as people from other part keep on visiting the country and as a result they will not come to
Malaysia any more that will decrease the GDP. Because of ignoring of cultural value the social
integration is regardless of their personal attributes such as socio economic status, age, gender,
ethnicity, cultural traits, religion, faith and educational backgrounds to have common
opportunities, rights and services.

In recent time it is noticed that country like Malaysia have develop different awareness
program of the diversity in the personal attributes of people from different ethics backgrounds is
very important. It is very common that government of Malaysia must carry various plan,

policies, activities to develop the understanding among the younger generation and also promote
national integration (Wah, 2014). For example, the must launched a Malaysian national
economic and Cultural value in order to promote unity among youth they should different
cultural program at all types of school such as vernacular school system in which all communist
student such as Chinese and Indian are allowed to come and learn values in their mother
language. It is common that children learn through observation and imitation. As it can be said
that parents are usually play the role model for their children, so their parents must do those
activity that would develop the understanding of cultural values among children. They should
practice courtesy and noble values as a part of their daily life that will enhance the youth to
follow cultural value in Malaysia.
CONCLUSION
In this essay report, it has been concluded that cultural value of every country plays an
important role in growing the image worldwide. The concepts of values and cultural value is an
extremely vast and complex one as cultural values means the symbolic relation that holds
together a given society or group within a country. In this essay report the lack of practice of
Malaysian values and the spirit of being a good Malaysian especially amongst the younger
generation have become recent issues. Different challenges faced by common people and
government are discussed with proper suggestion are described in this report.
