Back to the apartment
Jamie Samson lead a life of that was filled with a great deal of struggle. His fate was
determined in an accident. As a child he was member of a family of three with no close or distant
relatives. His family was economically stable and led a happy life in the Burrawang. Destiny
drove him to an uphill path after which the brakes of their car failed. The accident killed his
parents and he was left with scars. A deep scar in his left forearm and the other one deep within
his soul.
Jamie managed to somehow make ends meet by working at a farm near Burrawang. On
his twenty fourth birthday, the owner of the farm gifted him a diary. He started filling the diary
regularly, writing about his daily activities. Even though he did not complete formal education,
his ability to write was one of the best skills in his repertoire and the same was discovered by the
owner’s son when he was supposedly going through Jamie’s belongings while accusing of
stealing an expensive wrist watch. His style of writing was highly appreciated by the owner’s
family and they urged him to write in his spare time. He fell in love with the idea and this soon
became his second nature.
He moved to Campbell town after a few years, rented a single room apartment and
carried on with his struggle until his work started getting recognised. However, the industry was
highly competitive. His work could not buy him the luxuries of life. It was just enough to get him
through the days. He used to visit a publishing house on the weekends. The main reason for
going to the publishing house was substantiated when he met Rebecca. He started visiting the
publishing house more often and the reason was not left in the shadows. He realised that he had

fallen for Rebecca. The same was realised by every other co-worker of the woman. It became a
topic of gossip within the office and reached the ears of Rebecca rather sooner than expected.
The disapproval from Rebecca was not well received by Jamie. Rebecca was the first girl
he had ever fallen for. He used her as inspiration and often used to tell her colleagues that he was
preparing a novel that would be based on his life and Rebecca would hold a crucial part in the
same. In the initial stages of visiting the publishing house he started believing in himself again.
He believed that not only he discover the feeling of love but also got ideas about a novel that
could transfer him to the big leagues. He felt motivated by the possibility of the relationship and
started making himself better until he discovered about Rebecca’s disapproval. His motivation
soon turned into demotivation. He felt that his financial condition was the reason why the girl
disapproved his love. He was however very doubtful. He wanted to hear from Rebecca herself.
He felt betrayed and let down yet wanted to carry on his writing, he had to as his livelihood
depended on it.
On a Sunday he crossed paths with Rebecca who happened to be in the same grocery
shop, at the same time and at the same isle. They saw each other but did not exchange any words.
Jamie felt a deep desire within himself to make Rebecca alter her decision although he felt that
he would be turned down. His level of esteem was a low it could get at that point, yet he gathered
the courage to face her. As he walked close to her his palm started sweating and it also appeared
that Rebecca’s face was turning red. He broke the silence by asking Rebecca what his fault was
and why had she turned him down. Rebecca smile when a man shoved him from the back. The
man asked Rebecca whether Jamie was bothering her. She ignored Jamie, started arguing with
the man and left the shop. Jamie was left staggered. He was not able to reciprocate what had just
happened. He decided to follow them. He followed them till they reached a house were they

entered. He was who the man could be. He pondered a lot while waiting outside. He realised that
could be her possible love interest and the sole reason her disapproval of his love. It was almost
ten at night when the headlights of a speeding car reflected on the name plate at the gate of the
house. He decided to inspect the same and figure out that Rebecca was the wife of the man who
she was in the house with. He was devastated. Feelings such as anger, betrayal, agony and
sadness drowned him. The man’s name was Dane Harris. It was the first time that he had come
to know the surname of the girl he loved. Finally he came to a personal conclusion and came to
realise the reason behind the disapproval. He decided to leave he place and began to walk back to
his apartment. On his way to the apartment his feelings finally burst out in the form of tears. He
could not stop but cry. He was saved by am a Police Marshall when a speeding SUV almost
crushed him. The additional feeling of fear overwhelmed him. He was reminded of his childhood
trauma. It was then that he said to himself that he cannot squander yet another opportunity to
live.
As he went back to his apartment he realised that he cannot afford to lose what he could
have achieved. It was the first time in his life that he realised that he had potential. The speeding
SUV changed him and his thinking mechanism. He decided to be with Rebecca in whatever way
possible. He had ideas, vindictive ideas. Idea such a kidnapping Rebecca, Murdering Dane and
much more flooded his mind. Before all had transpired, Jamie wanted to establish himself as an
established writer and wanted to make a name for himself. He felt that the plan could still
become a reality and would just require a theme alteration. He wanted to be with Rebecca and
was ready to go to any extent to achieve the feat.
He started tracking the whereabouts of the Dane. He figured out that Dane worked in the
managerial division of an accounting services company. He gathered all types of information

about Dane, when he gets in the office, when he comes out for a smoke, when he leaves, were he
goes after that and when he returns home. Jamie had developed a crime plot based on which he
was writing his novel. The latter was a reflection of his life and the sin that he was about to
commit.
Jamie tracked Dane’s movement on a regular basis and was successful in finding him
alone one day, on the way back home. Jamie followed was planning to take Dane out of the
picture so that he could be together with his lady love. He planned for a situation like the current
for months. He even bought a big sharp knife with which he wanted to end Dane’s life. He
sneaked up behind Dane and gradually increased his speed and suddenly lashed onto him with
the sharp knife. The plan failed as Dane realised that he was being followed and was able to
dodge the amateur lunge. Jamie missed and fell on the ground face first. Dane was not able to
recognise him since he was covered head to toe. However the sleeves of the shirt that Jamie was
wearing was short and exposed the scar of his left forearms. Dane discover the scar and was the
only possible lead that he had. Jamie was successful in fleeing the scene.
Dane was struck with shock and fear. He could not figure out why anyone would want to
lunge at him with a knife. He was highly intrigued by what had happened and reported it to the
nearest police department. Investigation started next morning and Jamie was identified as the
suspect. He was later taken into custody after Dane was able to identify the scar on his left
forearms. Additionally, people of Rebecca’s office also gave inputs to the case by identifying the
possibility of a revenge plot in action. Dane was of forgiving nature and requested the police to
reduce his charges. Jamie was released after three months, after which he decided to not ever
think about Rebecca.

Jamie’s decision mechanism was highly altered by getting to know the forgiving nature
of Dane. He decided to let go of his bitter feelings against Dane. He had thought of plots during
his time in the jail. However, the idea of publishing the novel was still on the cards. He published
the novel. It received accolades for giving the readers across the state an overall thrilling
experience. The controversy related with the murder attempt further propelled the success of the
novel he published. It received critical acclaims for having a realistic feel. Even Dane and
Rebecca recognised the fact and were highly appreciative of his achievement.
It was week after the successful launch of the novel that Dane was found dead in his
bathtub and his belly seemed to have been punctured. The water of the tub was still running
when their house maid discovered the body after trying to enter the bathroom to shut the running
water. Her scream alerted the local security who then informed the local police department.
Rebecca was out on a business trip when this happened. The police informed Rebecca and she
was back within a couple of hours. She told the police that she had to take the first flight out of
the nearest airport to arrive at the scene. The police informed that Dane bled to death after being
stabbed several times after being drugged which made him fall unconscious. Rebecca and his
relative mourned his death and all eyes were back on Jamie. As the way in which Dane died was
same as how it happened in Jamie’s Novel. The police still took Jamie into custody after the
event. It was believed that it was yet another attempt of his to get into the life of Rebecca also
having attempted to do something similar in the past. Evidence was provided by the press as
Jamie was in a conference during the crime. Jamie got relieved of the guilt. Who could have
killed Dane and why? The mystery remains unknown.
