Balfour Beatty is considered to be a leading international
infrastructure group. The company deals in developing,
financing and maintaining efficient and innovative
infrastructure which helps in underpinning daily life,
supporting communities and also helps in enabling the
economic growth. It is headquartered in London offering
several services including general contracting,
construction management, design-build, cost consulting,
public private partnerships, preconstruction services etc.
The company is driving transformation of the industry for
meeting the challenges of the future (Balfour Beatty, 2021).
There are various job roles in the company including
tunnel manager, welder, works manager, technical
engineer and many more. The job role selected for this
assessment is the role of technical engineer on which the
whole case study will be based upon. The main role of the
technical engineer in this company is supporting the
technical services group which ensures the
implementation of engineering excellence and business
across BBL in line with BB and the other strategies of
business units (Al Mawli and et.al., 2021).

engineer needs to work closely with the technical services
group so that the objectives of group are achieved. Also
they supports various initiatives and programmes, works
with supply chain partners and customers and also leads

the workshops for delivering the actions. They also need
to ensure all parts of BBK are compliant with the
standards of BMS. They also actively participate in all the
BB communities of practice. The technical engineer
needs to comply with IPR (intellectual property rights) and
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) rules. This
is how; various legislations are there which the technical
engineers of Balfour Beatty needs to adhere to.
The main objective of the WHS Act is providing balanced
and nationally framework which is consistent for securing
the safety and health of workers and workplaces. This is
done by protecting the other workers and the other
persons from any type of harm by allotting specific
responsibilities to the duty holders who can help in
eliminating or minimising the risks.
The Work Healthy and Safety legislations must be
implemented by the state as well as organisation so that
hazards can be identified in every process of activity done
by technical engineer. The engineers also need to
consider all the potential risks which are involved in
design phase, ensuring that it is safe to be build, function,
manage or demolish the building, plant or structure. This
is a sort of federal model which is a systematic approach
for implementing the risk management by following the
Risk management standards.
Duty of care is the legal duty for taking reasonable care
so that other people do not get harmed. This also helps a
person in identifying the reasonably likely risk of harm and
the care which can be provided in response. This is
basically a common concept for all the modern
occupational health and safety (OHS) workplace health
and safety regimes.
The main aim of these policies and procedures for WHS
