Introduction to an Australian Hardware company
Australian Hardware company provides high-quality hardware such as
building materials, home wares, and garden supplies. Initially, the company was
only providing small furniture for the household. It is a public company since
1982. The major marketing strategy of the Australian hardware company is
characterising multiple or different products along with services according to the
target population and target marketing events (Coffeeville, 2020).
Recently, the Australian hardware company has expanded 138 warehouse
stores. With increasing its branches of 138 stores and around 10,000 employees,
the company was growing and became the largest hardware retailers. The
company has increased its sales revenue along with an increase in gross profit.
The market share is also growing that helped in building a reputation as a social
along with an environmentally responsible company. The company also maintain
and can control direct and indirect operational cost. For effective delivery of
services of the Australian hardware company, the senior leaders and
management should also focus on maintaining the health and safety of the
employees of the organisation. The work health and safety (WHS) policies and
guidelines are set in the organisation for reducing the incidence and injuries
arise within the workplace.
Determine the features of WHS management system for
Australian Hardware Company
The management system of WHS should focus on the health along with
safety of the Australian Hardware company. The WHS management system
should review the program that includes effective measures for the employees
for reducing any adverse incidence within the workplace. The WHS management
system should be featuring on the policies and regulation to overcome the
following incidence:
The manual lifting of hardware goods along with the furniture either within
the workplace or customer service areas.
The forklift drivers, along with other drivers, and customer service staff
handling hazardous materials.
The following incidence or elements are the major contribution towards the Lost
Time To Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) of the company’s business. Therefore, the
Australian hardware needs to formulate and plan policies and guidelines
accordingly with the WHS requirements. For the first incidence: the lifting of the
heavy hardware goods, it should be done with the help of a forklift. The second
incidence of handling hazardous material, the packaging should be labeled and
carefully done. In addition to the packaging, the employees or workers should

also receive effective adequate training on handling the hazardous material. The
new policies should be carefully implemented in the organisation to reduce the
adverse incidence and to promote the safety of the workers. These policies
should be well documented and conveyed to the employees for better access by
every level of employees within the organisations. The managers and senior
leaders of the organisation should ensure that the updated policies, along with
the existing policies, are adequately communicated. In addition, they should
monitor the activities and outcomes of the implementation of policies and
guidelines within an organisation. The new employees should be given training
along with communicating effectively about the necessary policies and must be
guided in the initial stage that is before joining the time. The documentation
process should be constantly recorded of the procedures of the implementation
and the activities. This documentation would help in evaluating and analysing
the effects of the proposed and newly implemented policies. The health and
safety issues should decline with the help of the proposed process in WHS
management.
The major resource for the implementation of these policies and
guidelines are human resources. The effort of providing the training and time is
also included in the resources. The two-hour training is offered to every
employee on the implementation of the new policies and guidelines. The other
resources, such as the usage of extra forklifts and other equipment for safely
packaging the hazardous materials, are included. The financial budget for the
implementation of the guidelines will be $1 million.
WHS Policy and procedure proposed to Australian

The proposed policies include providing relevant training in handling and
maintain the safety issues within the organisation. The additional resources
would be necessarily added for the appropriate implementation in the policies.
Purpose:
The purpose of the policy is to provide a safer environment for the
employees within the organisation. The policy is formulated considering the
ethical along with legal obligations of the Australian hardware. The Australian
hardware has identified and realised its responsibilities for providing a safer and
healthier environment for the visitors, employees, contractors, and clients within
the organisation. The Australian hardware would give the wellbeing of these
individuals of the workplace. The Australian hardware would continuously
monitor and assist in providing along with ensuring safety against the higher risk
incidents. They would ensure that while the employees perform their duties and
responsibilities, any health-related risks would be minimised.

Responsibility (Highlight the added responsibility apart
from management and individual):
For the implementation of new policies and guidelines, the management
and the individuals play a major and significant role in communicating along with
help in effectively implementing the policies in the organisation. They are the
key stakeholders for providing a safer environment for the employees in
delivering their duties in the workplace. However, apart from the management
and individual, a few other key stakeholders play an effective role in providing a
safer environment.
Volunteer employees are responsible for:
The volunteer workers within the workplace are responsible for taking care
of and protecting their own health. They should ensure that the health along with
safety of the other people working in the same workplace must not be affected.
The equipment and tools provided by the employer must use efficiently in
protecting a safer environment. They should follow the provided guidelines and
practice the policies implemented by the employer.
Contractors are responsible for:
The contractor hired by the organisation or company comes under this
category. They are responsible for taking responsibility for protecting their own
health along with providing the health of the employees of the organisation.
They are responsible for developing along with implementing the WHS systems,
procedures, and policies of the organisation. There are also responsible for
reporting and adverse incidences to the management (Safework.sa.gov.au,
2020).
Relevant Legislation and Standard (Considering to want
to apply legislation Nationally)
The relevant legislation and standards required for the implementation of
the policies within the Australian hardware company would be ‘work health and
safety Act 2011 (NSW).’ In addition to this legislation, ‘work health and safety
legislation,’ ‘anti-discrimination legislation,’ and ‘occupational health and safety
