INTRODUCTION
Enterprise architecture helps in effective implementation of strategies by organising IT
infrastructure and organisational standardise with company objectives. Therefore enterprise
architecture helps in identifying various strategies that firm can use to achieve its current and
future objectives in order to gain competitive advantages. This report is about an case study of
enterprise architecture that explains ineffectiveness of IT department that impact on growth and
performance of company. Thus, Govdept has decided to take appropriate measures to improve its
IT department for growth and success of company.
MAIN BODY
1 Comprehensive Roadmap
The organisation GovDept needs to work on some of the aspect critically where they need to
develop a specific roadmap where the Technological development and improvement of
enterprise structure will be the key projects that need to be undertaken (Chorafas, 2016). The
road map for both these activities can be developed in following manner:
The current status of the existing IT system and enterprise structure can be identified. This can
be done by the analysis of al the systems that have been implemented, the capacities of such
implemented systems and the practices that are being adopted in the organisation. On evaluation
of the current systems it can be identified that redundancy is the key failure in both IT systems
and Enterprise structure at GovDept. This will take approximately 6 months.
Next stage in the improvement is the actual roadmap where the different projects will be
undertaken for improving IT and this can be done by categorising separate capabilities or
resources for different tasks (Dang and Pekkola, 2017). For instance, the IT professionals that
have been hired in the organisation but are redundant can be employed on this project and rather
than the differentiated attitude, the collective betterment of organisation can be sought. For EA
as well, the experts that have been hired can be closely observed and they can be asked to
explain in detail what activities are the performing i.e. how are they planning to improve existing
EA. This will help in implementing correct actions in future as well and will require an estimated
1 to 1.5 years.
The third stage is the one which is the target stage i.e. the stage at which GovDept should be
after the entire planning is implemented for both the projects. This is also the evaluation stage
where it is verified that whether the targeted state is achieved or not. This is done in 5– 6 months.

2 Key role
If the Information Technology is successfully improvised in GovDept, then the key role that it
will play is:
Better Communication: While developing new enterprise architecture, it is necessary to keep in
mind the fact that communications challenges are clear and precise between different
departments of the structure (Safari, Faraji and Majidian, 2016). This ca be achieved by
implementing more clear and transparent IT systems in GovDept. This will also help in reducing
the redundancy of the organisation and its productivity.
Data Management: This is the best aspect of implementing robust IT systems for GovDept as
these will play a key role in ensuring that the entire data of the company is stored safely and
other important aspects such as management information systems etc. can also be taken into
consideration.
IT Architecture: Implementation of an architecture system that is extremely robust and updated
with the latest technology is an additional factor in developing a competent Enterprise
Architecture (Niemi and Pekkola, 2017).
Increased Flexibility: Implementation of robust IT systems also helps in increasing the
collaboration between different departments and the flexibility in the decision making. This can
quicken the overall process of decision making and implement the EA in a better manner.
Improved Blueprints: Use of technological assistance leads to creation and development of
better blueprints of the proposed EA for GovDept thus improving the vision and expectations
and also simplifies the entire procedure.
3 Key EA artifacts
By the activities being undertaken by external consultants, the key artifacts delivered by them
will be:
Technology reference models: The consultants will be analysing the best manner in which IT
can be integrated with all the departments in GovDept and this is the very purpose of technology
reference model (Shanks and et.al., 2018). In this artifact, the technological requirement sin the
entire infrastructure is ascertained.
Business Capability Models: All the strategies and business structure of the company is mapped
here so that the capability of the existing systems that are being used can be ascertained. This
will also be delivered as they developing current state and the targeted state of business
