Executive Summary
The success of a business organization often depends on the effectiveness of the
strategies put in place by the management. There are various factors which enhance the growth
and development of an organization for instance, proper exhibition of leadership skills,
innovation, effective marketing and branding just to mention but few (Augustine, 2008). Each of
each of these aspects require the right coordination skills hence the need for a leader with the
right entrepreneurial and decision making skills. This report draws arguments from the Eagles
Boys Pizza case study by applying theoretical concepts to a number of issues identified in the
case study. The report also entails a discussion of the various ways in which each of these
concepts contributed to the success of the business.
The case study reveals a number of aspects namely: entrepreneurship, recognizing
opportunities, marketing and branding, Intellectual property as well as franchising. The effective
application of each of these organizational ideas in addition to the incorporation to the right
managerial skills contributed not only to the successful start up of the pizza store.
There are various skills that are necessary for successful entrepreneurship that equally
remain eminent throughout the case study. These skills include: assertiveness, readiness to learn,
courage, willingness to take risks, perseverance and ambition just to mention but few. The
founder and owner of the pizza store had a number of the above mentioned attributes hence the
success of the organization.
Despite the fact that entrepreneurship and innovation are not the only elements necessary
for success in organization, they form the core pillars from which development and sustainability
is built.

arguments from the Eagles Boys Pizza case study by applying theoretical concepts to a number
of issues identified in the case study. The report also entails a discussion of the various ways in
which each of these concepts contributed to the success of the business.
Identified Issues
The Eagle Boys Pizza case study reveals a number of issues each of which played a
crucial role in enhancing the success of the business idea. To begin with, there is the aspect of
entrepreneurship which is eminent in the organization’s founder right from the very beginning of
the case study. Opportunity based theory emphasizes on the relationship between opportunity
identification and growth of a business. The founder possessed the necessary entrepreneurial
skills which allowed him to identify the specific opportunities before coming up with effective
strategies to get the best out of them. For instance by identifying the gap in consumer needs and
satisfaction, the manager varied its products to adequately fill these needs. Through mobile
deliveries, the pizza store also managed effective consumer loyalty and hence good sales
(Bidgoil, 2015).

The second eminent issue is marketing and branding. The organization enhanced its
brand popularity through the use of simple characters in its contacts. Additionally, through
extensive research, the manager identified the specific approaches which could be used to market
the brand and enhance its popularity. Through quality enhancement and proper consumer
relations, the pizza store achieved milestones in developing its brand popularity hence revealing
the essence of marketing (Bentley & Whitten, 2009).
Resource based theories highlight the need for a balanced and coordinated utilization of
available resources in order to gain the best. The management at Eagle Boys Pizza enhanced this
by ensuring the security of its Intellectual Property which remains one of a company’s greatest
assets. By securing patents and rights, the organization ensured the integrity of its workers and
partners hence protecting its innovations from the reach of competitors. This aspect is vital in
enhancing sustainability (Mesly, 2017).
In a bid to expand its operations, the organization opened various outlets. The cost of
managing these outlets and building new ones would be unbearable for its growth hence the
incorporation of franchising which has since played a crucial role in enhancing the encroachment
of the pizza stores in various parts of Australia and New Zealand as well. Franchising allows an
organization to expand its scope of operations without necessarily having to incur the start up
related costs. This is because the company is often franchised to an already established and
dependable entity (Chesbrough, 2010).
The last issue is the aspect of identifying opportunities. The Pizza business idea actually
came as a result of an opportunity which Potter the founder had noted. The expansion and
development of the pizza store into a national and international entity has largely been pegged on

making good use of the identified opportunities. The strategies in this case involve using
consumer reviews to obtain their opinions on the products, identify tastes and preference and
hence prepare the pizza with each of these factors in mind. The idea of innovation through
opportunity recognition explains why the company has continued to experience a good return on
investment (Edmiston, 2010). Recognition of opportunity, marketing and brand promotion are
some of the strategies which were consistently implemented in order to enhance the growth and
sustainability of the organization. It can however be noted that each of the issues above, in one
way or the other, enhanced the success of the Eagle Boys Pizza.
Knowledge, qualities and skills necessary for successful entrepreneurship
Successful entrepreneurship requires an individual to be assertive. This implies while
taking the ideas and advises of others, there the inevitable need to have a stable stand on one’s
own opinions and strategies. Potter’s assertiveness led him to start a pizza shop despite the fact
that he had knowledge in bakery and other fields. The second quality is courage and risk taking.
The pizza store picked to its colossal level because the founder was courageous enough to make
the first bold step. The implementation of the innovative ideas was not entirely successful in
some cases involved risk taking (Fox & Murray, 2014). A major attribute in successful
entrepreneurship is ambition. The founder’s ambition served as one of his greatest driving forces.
Good decision making and conflict resolution skills are also necessary for successful
entrepreneurship. This is evident in the case study especially during the period in which the
number of stores dropped. The revival process involved crucial decisions which were to be made
based on specific managerial strategies. Similarly, the management’s ability to bring this issue
under control and help the workers embrace the transition that occurred in ownership is an

indication of good conflict and change management skills each of which are essential for success
in entrepreneurship.
Role of entrepreneurship and innovation
Despite the fact that entrepreneurship and innovation are not the only elements necessary
for success in organization, they form the core pillars from which development and sustainability
is built. The case study identifies the various entrepreneurial and innovative strategies which
could essentially be linked to the success of the business. Research and innovation formed a
basic function of the company’s culture (Hope, 2009). This enabled the management to identify
the specific aspects to improve about the products, mode of packaging as well as delivery. For
instance the express delivery system was an innovative idea which played a pivotal role in
enhancing consumer loyalty, satisfaction and the ultimate bulge in sales (Johnson, Christensen &
Kagermann, 2008). Additionally, entrepreneurial attributes such as courage, ambition, decision
making skills, change and conflict management abilities served as the major building blocks for
the growth of the company. In conclusion, entrepreneurship and innovation play a pivotal role
not only in enhancing starting of a business but also its sustainability and development.
Conclusion
The report revealed various issues that uniquely influence the success of business
ventures. The case study and discussion above reveals the essential place of innovation and the
application of entrepreneurial skills in ensuring the success of a venture. Apart from the two
building blocks, identifying opportunities, protection of intellectual property, marketing as well
as branding are the other functional aspects which equally have a direct impact on the success of
a business venture. However, the change in ownership and hence leadership had a negative

impact on the business’s operations. It therefore passes as one of the issues which the company
management ought to have handled differently, perhaps by adequately preparing the workers for
the transition and related challenges.
Recommendations
 The business should not have changed ownership before the workers were adequately
prepared for the impending transition.
 The outlets ought to be established in rich portion of the market segments with minimal
competition to enhance sales
 There is need for constant staff empowerment through training, exposure, reward systems
and promotion
 The business ought to consider diversifying its range of products in order to reach a wider
scope of the market.
