Entrepreneurship Skills and Capabilities
As a student of economics, Leila Janah believed that entrepreneurship skills does not
require the brilliance or the creative genius. Rather, as an entrepreneur one should stick to the
business even if there are failures and implement effective decisions to make the business
successful. She was a successful social entrepreneur and established her company of
Samasource Impact Sourcing Inc. to employ the poor people of India, Kenya and Uganda
(Nemkova, Demirel & Baines, 2019). While she was working for a firm in New York, she
came to know through one of her assignments that outsourcing business is a common
phenomenon for the poor Indians to earn a living. She took this idea to employ the people of
slums in Ghana and engaged them with easy tasks such as data entry. The same non-profit
organization of Samasource now employs people who can perform tasks necessary for
developing applications for artificial intelligence and incorporates a venture capital of $14.8
million, by serving their purpose for a social mission.
The businessperson took steps in employing women by noticing that the females of
Uganda use nuts to make Shea butter and moisturise their skin. She developed the idea to
manufacture beauty lotions under her own established company, LXMI. Leila helped the poor
Americans to set up their profiles on Internet, match their skills sets to the opportunities
available and thus apply for jobs in her organization (Melia, 2020). Leila was also not a
skilled leader. She was a brutal manager in the initial days. However, she realised that if she
hires in a slow process and incorporates skilled people who can make use of the training, her
business will emerge out successfully.
