The environmental assessment consists of certain rules and policies that help to reach
into a decision regarding the proposed actions that should be taken in case of the
environment1. It is a valuable tool as it helps to analyse the level of requirements regarding
the environment. United Kingdom is a leading producer of oil and gas. In UK Continental
Shelf, a large resource regarding the oil and gas has been present. This assessment is
necessary to create an effective opportunity regarding the same and it is the duty of the local
authority to examine the various aspects of the environmental policies.
According to Department of Energy and Climate Change, environment impact
assessment helps the researchers to analyse the facts whether a proposed plans or formula is
suitable for the environment or not. In case of the oil and gas industry, there is a massive
chance of environmental risk present. The risks can be occurred regarding the marine
pollution or compositional changes regarding weathering process. The process of refining gas
and oil involves cracking and breakdown regarding the heavy fraction. Impacts can be taken
place regarding the coastal and marine ecology or climate change and the same can be
created effect on the sustainable development2.
