1ePORTFOLIO Introduction In this ePortfolio there will be a brief and succinct description about myself and my future career plans. This portfolio will help in determining my academic accomplishments and employment experience. It will help me conduct self-assessment through reflective process and enhance my self-esteem and self-confidence. Furthermore, it will also assist me increase the recognition for my abilities. The platform of FolioSpaceswill be used for making the portfolio based on its popularity (Foliospaces.org, 2019). Achievements and experience My name is XYZ, but several people call me XXX. I have been working as a registered nurse in the United Kingdom since 2006. I had completed my Diploma in Nursing in 2000, in India and soon became a qualified nurse. I also have the prior experience of working as a Night Registered Nurse. I have acquiredpriceless experience and schooling over all these years in nursing profession, and have also utilized all opportunities by taking benefit of learning scopes that have supported me in reinforcing my nursing expertise and skills. My tenure as a registered nurse has also provided me assistance in increasing my clinical expertise by reflecting on the incidents that I have encountered so far, thereby facilitating my decision making skills anddelivery of quality care practices in regular nursing practice. Framework of lifelong learning There is mounting evidence for the fact that lifelong education in nursing is related to an enhancement in the performance of the professionals and is directly associated with their success in clinical practice (Davis, Taylor & Reyes, 2014). Despite the considerable attention that has been paid to the concept for lifelong education, there is an inadequacy of strategies that must be adopted for this procedure. I hold the opinion that continuing education even
2ePORTFOLIO after attaining an educational degree helps in gaining novel and vast information that can be easily implemented during care delivery, with the aim of improving optimal health and outcomes among the patients. Aged care nursing The domain of aged care encompasses the provision or delivering care services for meeting the unique preferences and health demands of the older individuals in the nation. Time and again it has been established that the role of an aged care nurse is generally concerned with covering an array of duties that includes providing medications to the older patients, conducting a comprehensive assessment of the patients, evaluating vital signs, changing dressings, and forming a liaison with the physicians (Algoso, Peters, Ramjan & East, 2016). While working as a night RN in aged care facility, I was involved in directing the carers such as, the staff who were responsible for lifting the patients. I also took all possible efforts for meeting their personal needs such as, grooming and feeding. At the time of admission of a patient to the healthcare facility, there often occurs an unsettling period that makes it necessary for providing the patient with much required support from the staff and family members, with the aim of enabling a smooth transition for the patient (Aldeen et al., 2014).Hence, I have always been proactive in caring for the patients and providing assistance and support to their family members in resolving their concerns and apprehensions about the treatment modalities. The standards of proficiency for registered nurses in the UK require the professionals to represent necessary attributes, skills, and knowledge while caring for patients of all ages, and also expects nurses to reflect on the strategies that can deliver effective and compassionate nursing care (NMC, 2018). I can proudly say that I have shown adherence to the codes of practice under most circumstances. However, suitable nursing skill-mix is essentially allied to delivering apposite care in
3ePORTFOLIO Australia. In addition, the aged population living in Australia suffers from a range of comorbidities, and chronic health disorders (Willis, Reynolds & Keleher, 2016). Framework The ePortfolio will be based on development of an approach and/or framework that focuses on student-centred learning, taking into consideration the impacts of online technology. Thus, it will focus on the ‘Plan-Do-Review’ cycle that will encompass collection of artefacts from previous experiences related to nursing curriculum and care delivery in aged care settings, followed by selection and linking the artefacts to online web pages in order to obtain a sound understanding (Mazlan, Sui & Jano, 2015). Comparing between the achievements, reflecting upon past experiences and undertaking a reflective commentary will enable gauging the already existent clinical skills, and the areas that require improvement. Conclusion Hence, with the aim of increasing my proficiency and clinical expertise and serving the aged population in Australia, I intend to complete my current degree and play the role of a RN in Australia. It is expected to be completed withintwo years. My future plans also focus on gaining the capacity to manage a complete healthcare place.
