his race. This suggest that equality include that all people in society regardless of their
race are authorised to access all the possibilities and services of the society.
Diversity refers to a state in which one or more different social groups exist within
a society. This means that more than one gender, race, culture, caste and people from
different financial status are there in society.
Based on diversity equality is required that all these different types of groups and
people included in society has equal access to all opportunities and goods and services
in a society (Modood, 2016). Failure of this is the case of Stephen Lawrence murder.
These terms in case of Stephen Lawrence are important because he was
murdered only on the grounds of racial decimation and was not subject to anything
other than that. However the act was brutal and was treated with many other act and
legislations yet this is important to consider. It is important that people are educated
about equality and diversity because in absence of that people discriminate with those
who are different from them and many times end result is case like Stephen Lawrence.
Legislation
Legislation play important role in protection of equality within society. In order to
protect equality several legislations have been developed. Among which major
legislations are Sex Discrimination Act 1975, Race Relation Act 1976, Disability
Discrimination Act and Equality Act, 2010 (Holohan, 2017). However, the case of
Stephen Lawrence was based on racial discrimination and this is why race relation act
can be considered important in this case.
This act was created to prevent discrimination on the racial ground. Elements that have
been covered in this act are race, color, nationality, ethnic and national origin in the
fields of employment, in provision of goods and services and in education and oublic
functions.
One of the major changes took place in legislation was against the rule of double
jeopardy in common law. This states that once acquitted an accused person could not
be tried a second time for the same crime. The modification in this involved that it
should be repealed in murder cases and it should be possible to subject an acquitted
murder suspect to a second trial if fresh and viable new evidence are found later.

Impact such policies have on your public service colleagues
Policies of Metropolitan Police are favourable and ensure that every members of
the organisation is treated fairly. In order to do so they have developed strategy and are
also focusing on different policies regarding different aspects of the organisation and
functioning so that they can ensure everyone in organisation is being treated fairly
(Ashe and Nazroo, 2017). In the strategy and policies discussed and identified their
research included that members of the organisation feel positive for their colleagues,
teams and managers and are happy and proud to be working for organisation. This
suggests that policies of the organisation are having positive impact on the public
service colleagues.
Argue why equality, diversity and fair treatment are crucial in the workplace and the
benefits this can bring to public service workers
Equality, diversity and fair treatment is very crucial in organisation and this is
more important when public organisation is Metropolitan Police (Ashe and Nazroo,
2017). The reason being this crucial for public service workers and workers of
Metropolitan Police is that they are responsible for safeguarding and ensuring that
equality rights of the people are safe. In this context it is very important that their own
rights are safe. Diversity is important and crucial because they want workforce to reflect
as London. This means that as London is a diverse city and place they are also willing
to create a workforce which is equally diverse as the city they are working for. Fair
treatment is important this is legally required that everyone is treated fairly and along
with this it is ethical duty of the organisation that members are treated equally ( Roffee,
