Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) in Fast Food Supply Chain Management is a strategy designed to make the fast food industry more efficient and responsive to consumer needs. ECR originated in the USA and was later accepted worldwide due to its positive response. Proper implementation of ECR is crucial as any obstruction can halt the entire supply chain management. This paper discusses the concept of ECR in the Fast Food Supply Chain industry, its development, and examines the status of ECR implementation in various fast food industries. ECR initiatives transformed the supply chain from a push system to a pull system where channel partners form new interdependent relationships. Quick and accurate flow of information through the supply chain enabled suppliers and distributors to anticipate demand requirements far more accurately. By implementing ECR, the Fast Food Supply Chain industry will receive many benefits. A case study based on McDonald's supply chain shows how this fast food industry firm uses ECR and gains an advantage.
