Introduction- Euthanasia refers to the procedure of intentionally ending the life of an
individual, with the objective of alleviating suffering and pain. In other words, it is defined as
the process that makes professionals end the life of a patient, upon request. There are
different types of euthanasia namely, non-voluntary euthanasia, voluntary euthanasia, and
involuntary euthanasia (Keown, 2018). In existing usage, euthanasia is generally defined as
the effortless enticement of quick death. This essay will elaborate in details on the different
ethical concerns that are related to the process.
Ethical concerns- It is often suggested that the primary factor that differentiates
euthanasia from the process of intentional killing is the motive behind the action. In addition,
the process is generally accepted as the procedure of death that stems from the objective of
one individual to kill another individual, using most painless and genuine strategies possible,
that is drivenexclusively by the best welfares of the individual who dies. According to
Goligher et al. (2017) people in favor of euthanasia hold the belief that adequate provisions
must be created for people living in a civilized society for dying without pain, and in dignity,
owing to the fact that the person has sole right on their body. Hence, not accepting the wish
of a person to endure an intentional death would signify violation of their personal rights and
freedom. However, there are several ethical concerns associated with euthanasia that make
most governments and organization opposes the procedure. Euthanasia opposers provide the
argument that if the government accepts and acknowledges the right to death of an individual
with dignity, individuals suffering from debilitating and incurable diseases are likely to be
eliminated from the civilized community (Pesut et al., 2019). This in turn is supported by
palliative caregivers since their primary role is to deliver relief from pain and stressful
symptoms to such people, and their elimination from the society would reduce their chance of
being cured from different illnesses.
