Discussion Board Post
AI Summary
This discussion board post addresses the question of whether a combination of physical exercise and medical treatment leads to better health outcomes for older adults with chronic heart disease compared to medical treatment alone. The PICO framework (Patients/Problem, Intervention, Comparison, Outcomes) is used to analyze the research question and rewrite it for better focus. The post summarizes a randomized controlled trial that investigated the effects of exercise training alongside standard medical therapy. The study assessed health status using the KCCQ questionnaire and found that patients receiving both exercise and medication experienced improved health outcomes compared to those receiving only medication. References to relevant articles are provided, and the importance of exercise in managing chronic heart disease is emphasized. The post concludes that physical exercise, when combined with medical treatment, plays a crucial role in improving the health of patients with heart disease and is more effective than medical treatment alone.

1. Description of article
This articles and study is randomised controlled trial designed which is being used to test
long term safety as well as efficacy of aerobic exercise training along with evidence based
medical therapy Effects of Exercise Training on Health Status in Patients with Chronic Heart
Failure, (2009).
KCCQ is a 23-item self-administered disease-specific questionnaire which can help in
getting appropriate scores including: symptoms, physical limitations, life quality, outcomes etc.
This questionnaire is also known as self administrated clinical visit.
For data analysis, statistical analysis is being used for getting outcomes and data in numbers
form. In this analysis effective expected sample size of around 1323 patients per group were
being provided 90% statistical power for detecting 2.16 greater differences between treatments
Papasavvas, Alhashemi & Micklewright, (2017).
2. PICO framework
To identify effectiveness and health outcomes of physical exercise and medications on
older adults with chronic disease as compare to those with only using standard medications. This
presented article is going to test the effects of exercise training along with usual care or
medications on health outcomes of patients with heart disease by comparing patients who
received only usual care. In the regards to importance of exercise and giving it with medical
treatment I can say that it can help older people with chronic heart disease in improving health
because physical exercise keeps healthy to people and also makes them feel pleased Kloda,
Boruff & Cavalcante, (2020).. So, it can be known that if exercise plays an important role in
treating and improving health of patients with heart failure and chronic heart disease or not.
3. Does combination of physical exercise with medical treatment can help older people with
chronic heart disease in improving health using with PICO framework
Patients/problem: Main problem which older people often face is chronic heart disease
and mental disorders as well. For knowing health outcomes of providing exercise along with
medications on older adults this study takes 2331 men and women in program of exercise or
physical activity.

Interventions: In physical activity along with appropriate medications, it includes: aerobic
exercise, home base training and combined exercise as well as meditation.
Comparison: The main aim of comparing health outcomes on older patients chronic heart
disease by providing exercise and medications than only providing medications and for that 1172
patients were given both exercise and medications and 1159 patients were given visual and
medications only.
Outcomes: It was found that patients who were given both physical exercise and medications
were more likely to improve their health than those who received only medications. It was
corresponding better health status. It was also found that usual care or medications plus exercise
training led to greater improvement as compared to only usual care or medications Chekhovska
& Chekhovska, (2016).
So, from the above, it can clearly be said that exercise plays an important role in treating
people and making them fit but there is requirement of having proper knowledge of exercise. As
per the extent of disease and the type of disease exercises are being suggested to patients
otherwise it can increase risk of heart disease. Exercise training has significant improvements in
self-reported health status a compared to those who have taken only medications and usual care.
4. Article for addressing questions
Impacts of Cardiac Rehabilitations and Exercise Training Programme in Coronary Heart
Disease. (2017)
In the context of physical exercise given to older people with chronic heart disease along with
medical treatment it can be said that it plays an important role and improve health faster than
only giving medical treatment. From this article it can be said that supervised exercise training,
patient counselling and physical exercise according to the type of disease increase quality of life
of people as it makes them feel pleased Kachur & et.al., (2017). It helps in improving
metabolism and oxygen transport which is important for improving health of people with chronic
heart disease. So, from this reason it can be said that physical exercise along with medical
treatment to older people with chronic heart disease improve health in a better way.

From the above data it has ben summarized that physical exercise played a vital role in
improving health and if it is being given with medications then it has greater impacts on health of
patients with heart disease.
