Health care sector plays an important role in society in which several famous persons can
be identified for putting their efforts for social welfare. They provide medicines and other
medical facilities of poor people who are not able to afford expensive treatment. However, these
people prefer internal satisfaction more than money which motivate them to provide support for
poor people in society with proper dedication in respect of solving desired problems (Tonnies
and Loomis, 2017). The present essay will focus on life choices of 'Mother Teresa' which are
based on sociological, cultural, moral and human development theories to the context of health
care delivery.
Mother Teresa was known in the Roman Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta and
she was an Albanian- Indian Roman catholic nun as well as missionary. She was born on 26th
August in 1910 in Üsküp, Kosovo Vilayet, Ottoman Empire which is presently Skopje, Republic
of Macedonia. She get influence by stories of lives of missionaries and their service in Bengal
and she convinced to commit herself for religious life. In addition to this, she founder of
Missionaries of Charity which has around 4500 sisters working in 133 countries for welfare of
people. They provide shelter to those people who were dying of HIV/AIDS, leprosy and
tuberculosis.
Sociological choices of mother Teresa involves her responsibilities toward society in
order reduce different types of problems in order to improve their standards if living. It also
includes the lifestyle including religion and family or wealth. However, she got fascinated by
stories of lives of missionaries and their service in Bengal in her early years and she make herself
convinced to commit with religious life. In addition to this, she get influenced by such stories
and motivate left home to join Sister of Loreto as she wants provide help to society through
providing required products or services in proper manner. At the other hand, sociological factors
involves religious values and beliefs of an individual which encourage them to consider
favourable choices of their decision making (Blau, 2017). However, Mother Teresa is a very
effective as well as efficient social entrepreneur as she explore ideas and found a charity to
render support for dying people from severe diseases. Moreover, it involves her appropriate
efforts towards society as she focused on people who are suffering from critical health problems,
such as HIV/AIDS, leprosy & tuberculosis and not capable to afford medication. Meanwhile,
Mother Teresa provides not only medicines to people but also render proper shelter fro dying
individuals so that they will feel relieved along with providing proper healthcare services

respectively. Finally, she had decided to work for poor and unhealthy people who are not able to
get proper treatment or other facilities in their daily lives. At that time, there is no much
effective technology or advanced health care services then people suffering from leprosy and
HIV mostly not get proper treatment due to their weak financial condition. Furthermore, after
closely analysing overall condition of people in Calcutta. She has decided to work of such
individuals in terms of provide proper health care facilities to provide better lives to them along
with facing criticism in society.
Mother Teresa spend her life in to different cultures i.e. European culture in her
childhood and early adulthood and then she work in Indian culture. However, most influencing is
that she did not differentiated people belongs to different types of culture and only fulfil her
motive of providing care to needy people (Sigelman and Rider, 2014). She only follow single
culture including love for human life and follow humanity by providing help to poor people in
context of health care. In addition to this, Mother Teresa is against contraception and abortion
because she believed that peace of lives get destroyed due to direct killing in form of
contraception as well as abortion. However, her cultural needs to maintain better environment,
culture of life and culture of love which facilitate to generate factors of humanity among them.
Meanwhile, it will provide support to make people fell pain of poor and needy individuals so that
they put efforts to remove their problems. Moreover, Mother Teresa follow culture of love for
human lives which encourage her to provide medical facilities for poor people suffering from
tuberculosis, HIV and leprosy. She has profound understanding and radical loving out of truth
about inherited dignity of human beings in society.
The moral attitude and values plays an important role in everyone's life as it provide
support to make ethically correct decision as well as choice in their lives (Habermas, 2018). She
has several moral values such as humanity, honesty and mercy which facilitate her to render
serve poor people in through providing better health care services for their well being. However,
as per her mission of life and moral norms, she want to minister to poorest of the poor due to
which she visit Calcutta as well as other poorest cities with specific motive to reduce problem of
people. In addition to this, she performs her tasks or providing medicinal, facilities to improve
health of poor individuals along with providing other services which are needed in daily lives
accordingly. Moreover, she has a motive to remove poverty at global through solving problems
of people related to healthcare because many person get died due to suffered from severe

diseases including tuberculosis, HIV and leprosy. Meanwhile, she is morally very strong and
remain against abortion of child due to unethical social thoughts of people. At the other hand,
Mother Teresa follow love for human life and put efforts to reduce critical suffering, pain and
poverty from society which facilitate better lives of people at global level.
Mother Teresa put her overall contributions for Human development in terms providing
health care facilities and other relevant support to poor people to make them diseases, free. She
feel love for human life and want to help other human beings for solving their severe health
problems such as tuberculosis, HIV and leprosy. However, it involves her vision to provide
medical care to overall poor people living at global level as she did not differentiate them by any
means (England, 2017). In addition to this, she want human development in order to remover
threats of society like prosecution, contraception and abortion in order make citizens happy
everywhere. She get influenced by stories of missionaries and then start working as nun in her
adulthood as it is important path for her to provide help to for each needy person appropriately.
In order to gain human as development she establish a charity with number of missionaries in
terms of rendering medical services in different countries worldwide. At the other hand, a human
development model of Kohlberg with stages of development is given below.
The Kohlberg human development and its moral stages includes pre conventional level,
Conventional level and Post conventional or principled level. Initially, the pre conventional level
refers to stage in which morality is externally controlled and rules from authorities are mandatory
to avoid punishments. Secondly, conventional levels includes the importance of social rules for a
person including law & order orientation in people. Thirdly, post conventional levels can be
described as stage in which morality is based on abstract principles as well as values which are
supportive to apply in overall situations and societies. In addition to this, it also include social
contract orientation and universal ethical principle orientation (Homans, 2017). However, overall
these stages are involved in human development model given by a great thinker i.e. Kohlberg
which is useful for the same aspect. Moreover, it involves different moral stages which
differentiated orientation which facilitate human development in proper manner.
From the views and choices of Mother Teresa, my moral values are influenced by her she
maintain them at the time of providing required health carte services to needy people. However,
most important factors which highly motivate me i.e. she is working to complete a vision to
remove poverty and problems of people at global level by putting efforts. She has strong morale

and mind set to perform worldwide in order to prevent poverty, pain and suffering of individuals
due to their inability of affording medical services. At the other hand, her vision of removing
health problem like tuberculosis, leprosy and HIV from society at global levels due to
influencing culture of maintain better environment, culture of life as well as culture of love.
From the above report, it has been analysed that health care is very important at for every
individual living in a country but some of people died because they are not bale to afford
medications or treatments. It includes different types of factors which decide choices of path of
life including sociological, cultural, moral, and human development theories. In addition to this,
the given great person has single culture and moral involving love and care for human beings so
that she provide health care services to poor individuals. Further more, there are several disease
which are mostly focussed to be sort out by providing desired medications including leprosy,
tuberculosis and HIV from that people were dying.
