1ESSAYThe term intersectional feminism represents the diversity and inclusiveness of thefeminist movement. The main agenda of the feminist movement remains constant, but includesthe overlapping identities such as, class, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation and religion thatimpact the way women experience oppression and discrimination. The film Hidden figurereleased in 2016 and directed by Theodore Melfie highlight this topic I their film that will bediscussed and compared with “Women, Race and Class” by Angela Y. Davis holding similaressence.The story of the film portrays three characters; the historical figures of NASA, KatherineJohnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson and their struggle in the organization. Severalinjustices that were done on them were highlighted in the film along with highlighting theircharacters as warm, strong and exceptionally joyful, hardworking, dancing, joking and laughing.The audiences are shown repeatedly about their success that were appropriated and accepted byall but rewarded by none. It also shows the instance when the mathematician character PaulStafford holds Katherine back from putting her name on their joint project though she playcrucial role in their success, or the denial of Dorothy’s title or the pay for the supervisor workshe performed (metro.co.uk 2017). Several similar incidents are highlighted in the film, evenrepresenting the incidents of Vivian Mitchell who is a white woman, hyperware of her fragilityand novelty for their place in NASA. She had constantly refused to use her privilege for upliftingthe black women and give them their just rights and position. These intersectionaldiscriminations are show throughout the film that forced the audiences to confront the flaws intheir thinking instead of feeling detached. Both the sexist and racist characters abound, as thecharacters faced these from not only white men, rather from the both sexes. These advantageswere taken from them on multiple occasions on these intersectional grounds and used in the
