Position Statement CritiqueAs per the assessment made on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) forregistered nurse, it was found that the introduction written by author was properly framed andprovided information about the topic effectively. The main part of position statement providesinformation that clearly describes importance of CPD to registered nurse on the basis ofstandards prescribed by The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). However, itwas found that the author was unable to conclude the assessment in efficient way (O'connell,Gardner and Coyer, 2014). Thus, it can be contended that the following position statement waspartially structured with proper introduction related with topic but conclusion does not provideeffective understanding of topic.It was further found that statement efficiently relates the importance of CPD to registerednurse in accordance with the standards of NMBA. Moreover, it describes effectively that 20hours of continuing professional development to registered nurse is important so that patient careand safety in healthcare institutions of Australia can be improved in systematic manner (Smith,Latter and Blenkinsopp, 2014). The position statement also describes the reasons such as,because of work overload, nurses unable to give time to complete CPD. Implications andsuggestions were also provided in the assessment by the author to manage CPD along withregular work which shows that author succeed in relating the position statement as per the topic.There were various standards which were mentioned in the position statement. Thisdemonstrates the links of NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice effectively. The authorchose only specific standards that assist in providing efficient nexus between NMBA andRegistered Nurse practices. These standards connected by critically thinking and analysingnursing practice, engaging in therapeutic and professional relationship, maintaining thecapability of practice and development of nursing plan (Birks, Davis, Smithson and Cant, 2016).Thus, the criterion of linking NMBA Registered Nurse Standards for Practice was succeeded byauthor though he could widen his area of standard selection as many essential provisions werenot there in position statement.After analysing the position statement it was found that all the references cited by authorwas authentic, current and credible. For instance, author used Pool, Poell and ten Cate referenceto describe briefly the beliefs and methodologies of older generation nurses.
