Task One
Audit and Evaluation of Key Skills
Life skills can be defined as the basic set of rules which student had gained through learning or
with the direct experience in life which allows them to deal with the numerous sorts of issue and
problems that is encountered in day to day life. In other words, any skill which is helpful in daily
life is regarded as the life skills. They are concerned with the positive and adaptive behaviour
which permits the learner to cope up with the life’s challenges and difficulties. Some of these life
skills are critical thinking, creativity, communication, time management, problem solving,
decision making, self-discipline and sense of responsibility towards self as well as the society in
large (Cushing and et. al., 2019).
These skills are necessary in the learning or while acquiring education as without these
skills a student may find it difficult to deal with the real world challenges and responsibilities
which are essential in getting job too and overall personal & professional development.
Therefore it becomes necessary for the development of these skills at the education level which

Below mentioned are the few skills that I have developed along with its benefit to my education
and professional life:
Communication skills: Success of academics totally relies on the development of
communication skills of the students which enable them to listen effectively to the practical and
deeper knowledge provided by teacher while teaching. For better learning at the learning
teachers asked few questions to ensure that students have understand the learning which was
imparted. With the help of communication skills I was able to ask subjective and objective
questions to raise my doubts and get the solution (Donepudi and et. al., 2020). With effective
listening I clearly understand the view point of teacher which in turn helps me understanding the
concept more clearly and enhanced my learning. Another significant aspect that I have learned of
oral communication skills is pragmatic and social language which is essential in daily
interactions and building social relationship. It is important to be social and friendly at school
and college which help in making learning easier and competitive. With the help of my strong
non verbal communication skills I was able to build strong friendship while learning and my
body language, eye contact and facial expression revealed how confident and influential I am.
Furthermore, with my strong written skills I was able to clearly write and present work such as
arguments, summaries, hypothesis and synthesize complex ideas and concept in a effective way.
Time management: Time management skills plays a crucial role in learning process of
individual as with good and effective time management skills students can learn at fastest pace
(Orlanda-Ventayen and Valencerina, 2019). With the learning of time management, helped me in
learning and completing my assignments in less time because there is focused towards attention
and enabled me to avoid any distractions. Time management skills has also allowed me to
manage the academic projects, assignments along with the exam preparation which contribute
towards mitigating stress and makes learning more easier and effective. Apart from this time
management skill has allowed me to manage the each topic of subjects preventing from the last
minute preparation and scoreless in the exams. Time management skills helps in achieving more
in a less time of efforts as with the learning of these skills one understands the worth of time and
utilise it more efficiently towards the realisation of academic goals.
Decision making: Another essential life skill is decision making which is crucial for the students
while leaning and studying at college or university (Okoye and Nkanu, 2020). Students comes
across several challenges and problems in their academic life and personal life and in order to

cope up with these issue it is essential to posses good decision making abilities with a strong
sense of analysing risk and consequences of the decision made. With these skills students at
learning can make a significant decision related with their career path or progression and opting
for a best career options while analysing the pros and cons of each decisions. These skills have
helped me in determining which subject to study and what career path to be selected to meet my
personal and professional goals. Apart from these good decision making skills build cognitive
and analytical abilities, thus leads in building intense confidence level.
Gibb’s reflection model
Description: While learning in the university I was equipped with several assignments and tasks
which was the part of my learning (Hayes, 2019). During my learning my teachers asked me
questions to check whether I have understood the concept well or not. In turn I was also
supposed to ask numerous subjective and objective doubts if any for extracting more learning
and knowledge from teachers. With my good and effective communication skills I used to listen
carefully to the teacher and understand the concept well, which in turn helped me answering to
the questions raised in the class by teachers to evaluate our learning. Apart from this, my body
languages and facial expressions make me confident and encourage me to raise the doubt if any
during the entire duration of learning. Along with this good writing skills helped in clearly
writing and completing my projects and assignments in a clear and precise manner making it
legible for the teachers.
During the learning I was also provided an opportunity to learn time management skills
which is crucial in keeping balance between the completion of assignments and preparing for
exam which contribute in making effective schedule and planning for each topic of the subject to
be covered. During my learning I faced a lot of difficulty in managing my assignments and exam
together as all the assignments were on the deadlines and simultaneously there were exams. With
the support of my teachers I learned to manage time effectively and understood the worth of time
(Zajacova, Hepper and Grandison, 2019).
Decision making skills is essential in selecting appropriate course during the learning and opting
for a right career path. I was poor in decision making skills as I was unable to make sound
judgements on the basis of facts and figures due to which I was not confident enough and faced
several difficulties.

Feelings: While responding to the questions of my teachers I was quite happy and confident as I
hold a good command over oral, written and non verbal communication skills which have
enabled me to establish better relations with teachers and making new friends. With this strong
command over communication skills I was very cooperative due to which my friends and
teachers were supportive and showed positive attitude towards me (Kelly and et. al., 2019).
While learning time management skills I was feeling confident and organised as I learned
to manage things and make things done earlier with fewer efforts and on time. With the proper
and effective time management I completed the task on time which was assigned to me and
meanwhile I also prepared for the exams at the end of semester without being worry of last
moment learning and fear of scoring less. My teachers and friends were appraising my efforts
and supported me while enhancing and adapting easily to a scheduled life.
Decisions related with organising a team for projects, assignments and scheduling of
classroom sessions were made by mentors and coordinators among my friends. I was not
confident while making decisions which lead to decline in my morale and satisfaction level as I
used to face criticism from my teachers for making wrong selections and bad critics from my
other competitors (Igwe and et. al., 2019).
Evaluation: While acquiring communication skills I became over confident and displayed the
image of egoistic person which made impact over my positive relationship with teachers and
friends. Some of my friends were not even ready to talk to me because of my arrogant and
swollen headed behaviour. Even my teachers don’t allow me to respond to the questions as it
affected the ability and confidence of other students to respond. While the positive side was that
I was supportive and collaborative with others in enhancing their oral, written and non verbal
skills.
Time management skills allowed me to keep right and adequate balance between my academic
and social life. Due to poor time management skills I used to stick all day to the studies due to
which I feel isolated and less confident as there was no social interaction. But now with the
proper time management skills I keep myself entertained, motivated and confident while
interacting with friends and engaged in extracurricular activities meanwhile focusing on my
studies and scoring best in all subjects (Marrington, O’Shea and Burton, 2019).
Decision making skills helped me in making sound judgements with analysing effectively
relevant data and facts associated along with determining both positive and negative

consequence of each possible decision. In the beginning of my learning I faced a difficulty
because I was restricted by my limits but later on with more practice and positive results I
became confident and start taking initiatives in making decisions.
Analysis: I think possessing good communication skills have contributed towards positive
learning from my education as with strong ability to listen I understood the concept well and
presented assignment in a clear and precise manner which was legible too. Behaviour of my
teachers and other students was positive towards me as I was very supportive and collaborative
with everyone at college which is also essential at workplace (Tupe, 2020).
I believe with the time management skills I have learned to prioritise things and avoids
procrastination which is essential both in academic and professional career. Getting things done
on right time allows me to be productive and confident which is crucial at attaining success and
growth.
Decisions making abilities have made advancements in my learning and overall
professional development as in our daily lives we encounter several challenges and difficulties
which require sound and fair judgements and decision making capability. While leaning, I also
developed cognitive and analytical skills which are also beneficial in problem solving also.
Conclusion: I learned that communication skills constitute a significant part of our life as it
helps us in communicating effectively with each other, understanding each other and maintaining
positive relationships. These skills are also crucial in getting employment in future and attaining
academic, professional and personal goals in life.
I understood that time management skills brings discipline in life and makes people
responsible and organised in several aspects (Niu and et. al., 2019). I was careless earlier but
with the good time management skills I learned worth of time and value of each thing to be done
on time.
Furthermore, decision making abilities of a person help in building confidence and effective in
dealing with day to day problems. With the help of good decision making skills I am able to
make effective decisions in my life and choose right career path with confidence and cent
percent responsibility.
Action plan: Evidently from the above reflection it has been observed that I am lacking in time
management and decision making skills which I want to enhance over a period of time. These
