project, program

management
practices as applies
to asset rich
organisations.
Asset rich organizations have ample amount of resources that they can allocate
for their projects. Resource is also vital for different program and portfolio
management. This is because during the resource planning phase, placing the
assets at the correct position is vital for the successful implementation of the
plan. Therefore, each type of management might have their unique method of
plan execution, however the need for the assets is uniform throughout.
I have learnt from my experience that the planning and execution phases are
the key areas in project management as well as program and portfolio
management. However, planning asset distribution is different for each of them.

The tools as well as the techniques that describe processes of projects are
important for developing new projects and maintain the existing ones. This is
because every project needs some predefined milestones that must be
achieved. These particular techniques that can be used to describe project
processes along with the specific set of tools is therefore vital. Every facility and
equipment are measured under the technological as well as the asset life cycle.
Information of this life cycle is important for analysing project processes.

processes that are

justification,

criteria to occur in
an asset rich
organisation.
Project justification is a process where reasons are provided through analysis
and extensive research that supports the execution of a project. The policies
that are usually applied here are aimed at understanding the need for the
project and the people who will be benefitted from the project. The tenders and
the contracts are selected based on the criteria that they are fulfilling the aims
and objectives of the organization. The selection criteria of the vendors are a
little complex. They are selected based on the quality of their products and
services and the price that they are charging for that.

4. Critically analyse
management
strategies and
operational
activities from a
broad perspective
to ensure safety
and quality, to
avoid overruns or
rework, to manage
variations and
claims, and to make
decisions to
discontinue or
close projects.
The management carefully selects the vendors for item and service
procurement and ensures quality by conducting checks at every milestone of a
project. Benchmarking each milestone also aids to avoid time and cost overrun.
This also helps to minimize rework as the requirements are met by thoroughly
checking every step. The decision for discontinuing a project is very severe and
painstakingly long. However, some projects negatively impact the organization
and therefore to minimize the loss that it has suffered, the management might
aim at discontinuing the project. A project is closed when it is delivered to the
client and it meets all the requirements.

I have experienced that an effective and professional level of teamwork can be
achieved by classroom learning and different team building exercises. In the
past, my favourite team exercise was the scavenger hunt. This game not only
generates the skill to analyse the environment and act accordingly, the
participants also has to work as a team to complete it within the stipulated time.
Team work is required to systematically search the pre-designated area for
items. Coordinating with team mates greatly reduces the time required to
search the entire area and hence a great team building exercise.
