ETHICAL AND SPIRITUAL DECISION MAKING IN HEALTHCARE2 Ethical and Spiritual Decision Making in Health Care Spirituality refers to a deep belief in someone or something bigger than ourselves. A spiritual person believed that there are spiritual forces that influence what happens in the physical world. Spirituality could mean more than affiliation to a particular religion. It could refer to a set of beliefs towards higher being. There is one common aspect of spirituality. The aspect is that spirituality cannot be scientifically proven. According toO'brien (2017), there is a sense in which spirituality edifies a human being and makes them complete. My conception of spirituality would help me care for my patients in several ways. First, I would appreciate that there is a possibility of my clients being subscribing to some spiritual beliefs or practices. In such a case, I would respect their views. In case the spirituality of clients is affecting care in a negative way, I would explain this to them and their caregivers. This way, we can come up with a solution together. Another way that this conception would be important is through helping realize my own spirituality. I would then endeavor to ensure that I do not coerce a patient to do something that is guided by my spirituality. As a health care provider, it is very important to ensure that only scientific facts are employed in caregiving (Jupp, 2016).
