1ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN END OF LIFE OPTIONS
Kranidiotis et al. (2015) are of the viewpoint that the concept of ‘euthanasia’ had
formed the fulcrum point of a great many research works as well as debates over the years
because of the principles of ethics as well as morals which are associated with it. The topic
“Ethical Considerations in ‘End of Life Options’” is of interest to me because of the fact that
death is a topic which is of personal interest for me and thus I would like to explore the
ethical considerations or factors which form a part of the same. More importantly, I would
also like to analyse the concept of euthanasia on the basis of the different ethical theories and
find out its justness on the basis of the same.
As per Euthanasiadebate.org.nz (2019), 4.6% of the all the deaths which occurred in
the world in 2017 belonged to the category of medically assisted suicides or more commonly
called by the name of euthanasia. However, the problem arises from the fact that only 6% of
the nations of the world consider to be ethically justified whereas the remaining nations
consider it to be simply unethical (Euthanasiadebate.org.nz, 2019). This is perhaps one of the
major reasons why the process of euthanasia is still not being legalised in the majority of the
nations of the world. More importantly, Cuman and Gastmans (2017) have articulated the
viewpoint that the patients should be given the permission to medically terminate their lives
with dignity and respect in case there is no viable treatment or cure available for them. It is
precisely in this context that the research work will be conducted and will try to show that
euthanasia is completely ethical and the patients should be given the permission to end their
life with respect and dignity.
