Impact of ethical leadership on communication and collegiality
Ethical leadership has a major influence in an organization and it also impacts the
collegiality of the organization, the structures of the organization, message climates, schemes
and the behaviour and the attitudes of the staffs. Various real leadership behaviours and
styles have ethical elements for the instance, authentic leadership which also has a positive

only refers to the leaders who behave in an ethical manner and reflect the same to their
employees. (Kalshoven, Den Hartog, & De Hoogh, 2011).
Most importantly ethical leadership helps in maintaining a Two- way balanced
system for a good and a systematic communication. Some of the elements of ethical
leadership like the employees care, empowering behaviour show the idea of symmetrical
communication and it helps in focusing on the equilibrium of interests and power, teamwork,
relationship and non-manipulation. In accumulation the ethical leader’s helps in fulfilling the

of power both on and off the job, and ethical leadership needs to focus on how leaders take
advantage of that power in the decisions they make, the acts they take and how they affect
others. Leaders are responsible for motivating followers to carry out acts, perform tasks and
behave in certain ways. Effective leaders also shape processes, promote change in attitudes

strong foundation for other personal characteristics that direct our ethical beliefs, values, and
decisions (Kalshoven, Den Hartog, & De Hoogh, 2011)..
One of the most notable ways for companies to demonstrate their commitment to
creating an ethical organizational collegiality is to ensure that leading executives and leaders
lead by example. Employees look at top management behaviour as an example of the type of
behaviour the firm finds acceptable in the workplace. Actions speak louder than words so it
sends a positive message to employees when top executives display ethical behaviour. Senior
leaders must be aware of the fact they are being watched, and be sure to practice what they
are preaching (Schaubroeck, Hannah, Avolio, Kozlowski, Lord, Treviño, &Peng, 2012)..
Unethical leadership and it impact on communication and collegiality
Lack of ethical leadership will also impact on - the-job employee Collegiality.
Employees often cannot help but behave inappropriately or uncomfortably around members
considered to engage in bad behaviour. Many times, employees will avoid these leaders
altogether because they've lost respect for that leader. People who play by the rules will also
come to resent those who've gotten ahead by “cheating,” which eventually will lead to a
decrease in overall sense of trust and community that successful businesses rely on. So, if you
see awkward interactions between leaders and employees, or growing sense of resentment, it
might be a sign that unethical leadership is a problem.
The failure of unethical leaders to interact effectively inevitably results in
organizational instability and a lack of real leadership in practice. Poor communication or
unethical communication can lead to poor employee and collegiality, frustration, and perhaps
even the loss of job. Poor communication is detrimental not only to the organisation, but also
to the future opportunities for advancement (Yukl, Mahsud, Hassan, & Prussia, 2013)..

The impact of this is the lack of clarity in the organization. This is one of the greatest and
most potential-killing communication mistakes you can make in leadership. When employees
are not clear about the organization's goals or what their leaders want, they become frustrated
and their motivation nose dives. After all, if they don't know what they work for, why do they
work at all? Employees aren't fond of feeling directionless. A lack of clarity can lead to
mixed messages that will frustrate you, your employees and your organization. Rather,
communicate organizational goals to your employees and always be clear about what you
want or what you want to say. Don't ever leave anyone guessing.
