1. Importance of Ethics for Johnson & Johnson
Johnson & Johnson operates in pharmaceutical, consumer products and medical devices
industry. In these industries ethics plays an important role the products of the company
used and reached to billions of people in a day (Johnson and Johnson,2019). The
business ethics policies and code of ethics set the boundaries for the business that ensures
that business activities done in the right way with minimum negative impact on its
stakeholders and on the society.
The industry in which J&J operates is critical that has high level of ethical concern.
Business ethics ensure that companies are taking the right actions and making the right
decision. J&J have guidance, processes and procedure in place that helps the company to
use to the best of ability the resources, capabilities and expertise (Johnson and
Johnson,2019). The importance of business ethics for Johnson & Johnson is highlighted
below:
a. Relates to basic human needs: Human want to be part of the organization that is
ethical as they spend much more time with the organization. J&J formulated human
resources policies in order to attract more employees and workers. Some of policies
adopted by the company are ant bribery, anti-corruption, respect and dignity, diversity
and health and safety of employees (Chun,2019). Hence, business ethics is important
for J&J to attract skilled and well trained employees.
b. Transparency with customers and public: Ethics ensure the positive image of the
company in front of public. J&J spend huge amount in procurement from ethical
suppliers as ethical practices and good image of the company prove to be beneficial
for the company.
c. Credibility with the employees: Moral values, ethical values and perceived social
upright ness can help the companies to sustain employees. When business follows
ethical code of conduct they help in to hold the organization in high esteem. Hence,
business ethics in J&J ensure credibility with the employees.
d. Ensure better decision making: When any business follows ethical code of conduct
they take social, economic and ethical aspects in decision making in order to

maximize stakeholder satisfaction. J&J corporate governance framework ensure fair
treatment and quick decision making for the benefit of stakeholders.
e. Sustainable Profitability: J&J motive is profit maximization, but being ethical does
not mean that the company cannot make profits rather by following ethical practices
J&J ensure higher profits. In the field of pharmaceutical profit can be earn only
through ethical practices as the company which follow proper code of conduct in its
operations can sustain in the market for longer run (Leipziger,2017). J&J ensure
financial integrity by disclosing necessary information to the government, patients,
health care provider, employees and consumers. With that investors and customers
trust J&J activities and invest in the company and customer demand more products
that eventually increase profitability.
2. Relevance and Ramifications of J&J to being a global employers
The global players like J&J has to make sure that their business practices are coordinated
to the global market level. As companies that operate at the global level need to adopt
global practices in order to operate ethically. J&J is a global player and in order succeed
at the global platform the company followed global laws and policies that include Health
care compliance policies that is accepted by all employees across the world. HCC
training provided to all employees at the global level on topics such as anti-corruption/
anti-bribery.
On the other side, ethics mainly at the global level impacted by culture, diversity and
values. As in each and every country laws and compliances are different and they need to
be adhered by companies that operate at the global level. J&J at global level bring
integrity and highest standard by complying with laws related to quality and standards, by
upholding scientific, ethical and clinical standards, by following safety and security
measures for volunteers and patients, adhering to laws related to manufacturing,
distribution, packaging, and laws related to import and export as per the country norms.
Further, J&J focus on adopting laws related to marketing and promotion of products and
services so that truthful information reaches to people not misleading (Chun,2019).
The ramifications go going global or doing business internationally are adoption of
policies related to diversity and employees working conditions as per the global platform
as at the international level the company has to engage with employees across the world
