Accountability and responsibility (picture 1)
Nurses should have accountability, responsibility, and authority for nursing practice.
Therefore, he/she must make choices and take actions that are compatible with the obligation to
supply the patient with the best care. As a nurse or a student pursuing the related course, it is
essential that accountability for every detail of the patient care must be met with responsible
decision making (Grace, 2017).
Non-maleficence (picture 2)
Nurses are supposed to have a standard of care that will help them avoid risks or
minimize it. One of the ways through which a nurse shows non-maleficence is by avoiding
negligent care of a convalescent. Non-maleficence enables nurses take care of their patients with
utmost cautiousness (Gastmans,2013).
Beneficence (picture 3)
Beneficence is another ethical practice that nurses must adhere to. Beneficence means
that every action during nursing activities should promote good; providing the best services to
the client. Therefore, nurses should think of the long-term outcome of a service rendered to the
patient and its effect on the patient (Makaroff et al., 2014).
Honesty (picture 4)
Nurses should stay true to their word when administering patient care. This implies that
nurses should not lie to their patients in order to make them feel better during difficult situations.
This helps them maintain their integrity (Park et al., 2012).
