ETHICS AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY3IntroductionCorporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is referred to the initiatives taken by anorganization to assess, evaluate and provide accountability for the organization’s impacts onthe welfare of the environment and the society (Takkar, 2015). This paper aims to compare,contrast and review the various CSR activities of three companies –Microsoft, Apple andAmerican Express. The paper compares and evaluates the CSR activities of the statedcompanies with respect to a few issues of the CSR framework such as employee treatment,philanthropy, protection of human rights, and environment sustainability. The first section ofthe paper discusses and compares the approach of each company to CSR. The second sectioncompares and contrasts the extent to which each company is able to meet the needs of thestakeholders. The third section comments on how the companies have focused on the variousCSR issues. The fourth and final section discusses the scope and standard of CSR activitieswithin each company with respect to the company’s size. DiscussionApproach to Corporate Social ResponsibilityMicrosoftBased on recent records, Microsoft has been ranked as one in CSR. Microsoft claimsthat their mission is guided by the objective of empowering every person as well as everyorganization in the world (Freundlieb & Teuteberg, 2013). They aim at using theirtechnology, employees, grants and voice to enhance the lives of people by helping them getaccess to the opportunities and the benefits offered by technology (Microsoft.com, 2018). Inthis context, it can be stated that Microsoft is committed ethically, equally and transparentlyto operating their business (Carroll, 2016). Microsoft in fact, follows Carroll’s pyramid
