Executive Summary
The aim of this report is to understand the role of ethics and
governance in the professional field by analysing the case study titled
“From bad to worse”. This report analysed the significance of professional
ethics by evaluating the facts of the case study. In order to analyse the
behaviour of parties involved in the case study, certain ethical theories
are implemented which include Egoism, Utilitarianism and Deontology.
AAA decision making model is also used in this report in order to evaluate
the facts to reach the best ethical outcome. Lastly, the fundamental
principles of APES 110 Code of Ethics are analysed along with the
evaluation of the threats faced by Arnold and identification of possible
safeguards which are available in this scenario.

Introduction
Ethics is referred to moral principles which assist in guiding and
governing the actions and behaviour of a person while conducting a
particular activity. Ethics plays a major role in the case of professionals
since professional ethics focuses on identifying corporate as well as
personal standards which are expected by professionals (Durkheim,
2018). When it comes to business context, professional ethical principles
help in setting code of conduct in organisations to make sure that interest
of a wider range of stakeholders can be fulfilled. The objective of this
report is to analyse the case style titled “From bad to worse” and evaluate
the ethical conduct of professionals involved in the case study. This report
will apply relevant ethical theories in order to analyse the facts of the case
study and “American Accounting Association (AAA)” ethical decision-
making model will be used to reach the best ethical outcome. Lastly, this
report will apply “APES 110 Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants”
on the case study to identify its fundamental principle, relevant threat and
possible safeguards which are available.
