This essay discusses the principles of ethics, ethical frameworks and legislation in healthcare in relation to the case study of Makayla Sault, an 11-year-old girl suffering from lymphoblastic leukaemia. The essay explores the four principles of ethics in healthcare, namely autonomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice, and the five ethical frameworks, including virtue ethics, deontology, utilitarianism, rights-based ethics and care-based ethics. The essay also discusses the Canadian patient rights and the role of legislation in healthcare.
