INTRODUCTION
Health care organizations are those organizations which offers clinical service to the
patient through clinical authorities i.e. nurse, doctors and pharmacists. The main purpose of the
organization is to offer wellbeing services at reasonable cost. There is an example of NHS which
provides both type services i.e. social care and health care to people. The brief study helps to
understand structure, management and services of NHS. It follows a hierarchical structure in it’s
organization so that level of command maintain in effectively. There are three major principles
such as respect and dignity, commitment to quality of care and improves lives of people etc.
governs by NHS. The main role of the NHS is to helps people to influence their lives and
wellbeing in the society. It achieved its role by reducing poor health ratio in the UK.
Organization does not have good funding source that causes unable to achieved it’s enlisted
roles. To give fair treatment in the decision-making process is the major ethical principle of NHS
which has achieved effectively. It unable to maintain individual wellbeing in the workplace
while working at the workplace which is negative aspect of the company. Company prescribes
innovative medicine so that improves individual health asap. Lack of flexibility in the working is
the major drawback of the company. NHS get success to control Covid-19 patient in the England
as compared other countries. But it’s employees unable to protect themselves while treating
Covid-19 patients. NHS must organize pandemic event that helps staff to understand how keep
themselves protect while this situation.
MAINBODY
Evaluation of NHS
National Health Service (NHS) is complex system because it offers health care system and social
care system. It contains number of organizations along with different roles, responsibilities and
specialists (Asthana and Gibson, 2020). The organization offers variety of services and supports
i.e. health care, social care and others to patient and carers. It is established in UK and separate
its system into four parts i.e. National Health Services in England, NHS Scotland, NHS Wales
and Health and Social Care in the Northland that provides their services each part of UK. Each
part of NHS health system offers different type services such as NHS in England gives

pharmaceutical care services to the patient and in return patient have to pay charge of
prescription only. While NHS Scotland provides clinical services i.e. accidental and emergency
to the patient. NHS Wales provides local health service and available 24 hours a day, every day.
Organization offers wide range of health information on condition, treatment and others.
Mission statement
“To provide quality of care to every person every day” is the mission statement of NHS
(Putting quality first to deliver better health, better care and better value, 2019). The major
speciality of organization is that NHS focus on the statement and comprises two components i.e.
improving health and improving communities. Improving health is the first component where
NHS design itself in such a way that it’s client can direct access the information to aware them
about the best health and wellbeing choices. In addition, organization add few tools to advance
lifestyle of the patient. The tools are direction of exercise, sexual health and healthy body of
customers. Second component is directly interlinked with first one whereas organization
provides personal care and social care guides to the community for improving their health. Apart
from this, organization has planned highly efficient materials to provide its customer which is
essential for day to day life and supports as well. To fulfilment of mission statement leads
benefits for both NHS and people. When organization meet its objectives by offering high
quality services to the people as result improves public wellbeing. On the other hand, people get
chance to live quality life. Organization sets objectives to direct individual employee towards
common goal. NHS has aim to achieve its mission in minimum time as much as possible. NHS
also sets core values such as teamwork, excellence, integrity and caring which denotes
organization is more concerned for their responsibility. These core values help organization to
fulfil its mission over the time. NHS plans to improve health care facilities in their health system
so that they can offer high quality services (Clarke and et.al., 2018). For example, NHS in
Scotland offers clinical care services to the patient. Due to lack of staff and equipment unable to
provide proper clinical service to chronic patients like cancer patients, tuberculosis patient and
others. To overcome this issue recruit’s specialist who can handle pandemic situations
effectively. Thus, NHS leads change in the organization and their practices to get outcome-based
care.

achieving to mission. Let’s discuss about these three elements which are used by organization.
Delivering better health means organization has aim to maximize health and wellbeing of
communities and decline ratio of illness. It denotes organization try to keep people well. While
second element is to deliver better care. Care must provide in more specified manner and must
provide clean and infection free facilities to the people. It is possible when staff is well-trained,
motivated and professional staff who willing to give person-centred care services. Delivering
better value is third element of NHS. Organization has aim to give value of public money to
ensure that they spend money to give therapeutic benefit to the people, not for private gain.
Organization Structure
NHS is publicly funded organization in England. so, it comes in second largest payer
healthcare system in the world. NHS, local government, voluntary sector and communication
sector collaborates together and works innovatively to enhance health and wellbeing of people.
So, it is difficult to say that it is voluntary, community or local government organization because
it includes four type organization which offers variety of services to the people. NHS is largely
funded through general taxation and national insurance payments and fees of prescription etc.
these are the major source of organization to get optimum funds for its operations. 10% GDP
spends on the health which spends by public sector which is also taken by NHS. Thus, company
get sufficient funds to conduct its operation in the UK (James and et.al., 2017).
Organization sets outcomes for the funding such as clinical department needs more funds
because it handles emergency cases and chronic disease cases. While second department is
pharmaceutical department which offers medicine prescription service to patient for treating
minor health issues. Organization gets funds from the patient who have to pay fee of
prescription. Third is insurance payment that provides funds to NHS because organization offers
social care services. Taxation is another source of funding for the NHS. Thus, organization sets
different outcomes for the funding. Estimated 1.5 million staff are employed in the NHS. There
is several staff that directly employs in the UK country such as 1.2 million staff in England,
162,000 staff in Scotland, 89,000 staff in Wales and 64,000 staff in Northern Ireland (Average

which offer its services within NHS but there are other staff which gives their service as
temporary staff. For example,159,000 temporary staff work in the NHS even they refer as bank
or agency staff. 174,000 staff work in general practice in which 42,000 people were GP doctors.
24,000 dentists are in private practice who offers NHS funded treatment. 12,000 opticians are
authorised for executing out NHS funded eye tests. Organization pays their staff an average
salary around ₤26,268 a year. NHS pays its employee weekly instead of monthly. The reason
behind is that it provides flexibility and control over its finances. Even NHS’s nurse get salary
around 15% that is quite high as compared other national amounts (How many NHS employees
are there? 2018). Organization does not pay to voluntary employee but some voluntary staff
members i.e. voluntary coordinator or schedulers are paid by NHS.
‘Care philosophy’ governs by NHS in which includes social care, healthcare and personal
care as well. Organization the philosophy is based on four levels i.e. ethical level, social level,
health and economical level. NHS follows principles in their practices which directs staff to give
value-based care. Ethics are required in clinical practices because it gives potential and control to
handle situation. There is an example of cancer patient to understand role of ethical level such as
ethical principle gives right to doctor to do operation of serious patient. But before initiating
operation doctor give a consent form to a patient or the family to inform them about operation
outcomes. When they agree to sign then doctor start operation it denotes ethics which practices
by doctor. Social level denotes that organization must give social support to people by informing
regarding their health (Jenkins, Morgan and Houlihan, 2019). Health level philosophy is quite
complex care system because it includes number of responsibilities i.e. clinical, health care,
pharmaceutical care, local health care and others. Medical treatment is properly dependent on
economical and legal framework. Thus, overall framework follows by NHS within organization.
Person cantered care framework also follows by organization. By the framework focuses
on the individual needs and ensures that people preferences, needs and values are respectful. The
model helps to guide clinical decision. Person centred care model is based on the six principles
which guides organization how to give care services to people. These principle works in four
parts of NHS which is located across the UK. Organization offers care service to those people
who are suffered from mental health, dementia and learning disabilities. These type patients need

end of life ‘care programming’. The person-centred care model implements for such kind people
but when a person is mentally and physically fit then this model is not workable.
Organizational management
NHS follows hierarchical structure where information flows from the top to bottom layer.
This structure is quite impressive because it defines levels of leadership within company. The
hierarchical model is beneficial for the employee because it gives promotion opportunity to them
and inspires to perform effectively at workplace (Klein, 2019). Staff becomes loyal for their
workplace because they look out for the best interest of their work area. NHS has implemented
this structure with organization because it gives command all the department and easy to
motivate them to upgrade its position by performing well at workplace. Whenever any issue or
conflict take place between staff then it is easily resolved by managers because they get authority
through hierarchical organizational structure.
Appraisal
NHS gives appraisal to their staff based on the performance. For example, manager of
NHS monitors each employee performance at the workplace either they are doctor or nurse.
When employee enable to achieves number of tasks over the time and give praising performance
then manager offers appraisal to those employees. NHS sets three criteria to offer appraisal such
as incentive, recognition and promotion. These appraisals motivate individual to give honest
performance at the workplace so that they enable to be part of appraisal (McDonald and et.al.,
2017).
Teamwork
NHS promotes teamworking within organization because a individual employee cannot
handle complex task in emergency case. Manager of NHS delegates challenging task to the staff
in a team so that they give high efforts to complete task on time. Another reason is this teamwork
leads productivity in their working and maintains individual’s wellbeing within organization.
NHS in England that offers clinical services to emergency and chronic disease patients. This
department needs teamworking because when they work in team then everyone knows what’s

their roles and responsibilities and they handle it independently. That’s why organization
supports teamworking at the working place.
Training
Organization organizes skills and development program per four months for the staff. the
main goal of the program is to make them learn new skills which improves their working
efficiency. Even staff also get chance to improve their skills and learns new tactic which they can
apply at workplace while dealing with complex situation (Sanderson, Allen and Osipovic, 2017).
NHS organizes pandemic event within organization as well to make individual mentally prepare
for any type of situation. The benefit of the event is this it supports employee to keep themselves
safe and offer best care service to the people.
Staffing
NHS uses recruitment strategy to recruit well-trained and dedicated employee for the
suitable job place. Organization conducts three levels of recruitment and selection process such
as aptitude test, GD round and personal interview. This strategy follows by NHS for each post
either they are doctor and pharmacist or nurse.
Strengths and weaknesses of NHS
NHS offer variety of services in each part of UK by its three-sub organization. It is major
strength of the organization (Taha and et.al., 2017). But it has major drawback is this
organization has shortage of doctors and nurses in all organization of NHS which causes unable
to give proper services to individual patient and people at the workplace. Still, organization has
implemented recruitment strategy to lead high productivity of staff within workplace.
CONCLUSION
The report has been concluded brief introduction of NHS such as it contained number of
organizations along with different roles, responsibilities and specialists. Vision and mission
statement of NHS and its significance can be summarized in report. The brief study gave
understanding about NHS organization structure and it’s benefits for both staff and organization.
