Prosthodontics Assessment Report_2
INTRODUCTION The amalgamation of technology with medical sciences has brought large scaledevelopments for human beings. This report is based on the evaluation of effectiveness of mostappropriate technique which is suitable for manufacturing of prosthesis with highest accuracyand smooth workflow. This comparative assessment shall help in understanding the benefits inall types of prosthodontics. MAIN BODYThe process of designing the structure and features of an object through computerisedsoftware is initiated using two tools i.e. CAD and CAM. The computer aided design andcomputer aided manufacturing are technology based software which are generally used in thedesigning and manufacturing of machine parts. There are two basic processes included in CADwhich are CNC milling and 3D printing. Prosthodontics is known to deal with the use ofprosthetics in dentistry. Such type of specialisation in the field of dental science is illustrious todealwith the tactics of repairs and replacements for treating any type of defaults or damages inthe dental area. The traditional techniques for fabricating dentures was based on the casting. The use ofcast indicates the impression procedure where it includes the fabrication of a filler cast. It is donewith the use of mixed polyvinyl siloxane putty and placing it in it intaglio section of the patient'spresent dental plate. This is basically done to verify the acceptability of the diagnostic casts.Certain materials like gypsum or standardised wax, etc. were used for developing a cast whichwould be the dental prosthetic so formed (Carvalho, Bruzi, Anderson, Maia , Giannini andMagne, 2016). The important thing to note is permanent features of the cast. Once manufacturedno changes can be made and if fittings are not appropriate then a new cast has to be produced.Hence, there was a need for a better technique which will help in reducing the wastage ofresources that took place in this traditional development technique. CAD/CAM is the latesttechnological tool which helps in manufacturing and designing the dental prosthetics withaccuracy and least possible errors that is not possible to do by hands. There are different types of scanners which constitute as the basic component ofCAD/CAM software. These include optical scanners, mechanical scanners, intra-oral scanners,3
