Evaluation of methods for evaluation HSC
services
There are various methods for assessment
and evaluation of the quality of care services,
delivered in a care setting. In regards to the
internal perspective, some of the mentionable
methods are as follows:
Questionnaire and surveys- This is
considered as one of the most effective way
of gathering internal perspective. The reason
being, it is with the help of surveys and
questionnaire, different perspective of care
users and care providers can be effectively
gathered. The feedback gathered from
questionnaire and survey helps in getting
clarity about the perspective about the quality
of delivered care services (Goodman, and
Goodman, 2009). It helps in understanding
the areas of care service with which the care
users are not satisfied and the perspective of
care providers on the same, and makes
necessary changes in the care provision
accordingly. This is one of the major
advantage of this method, that the collected
information helps in bringing necessary
improvement in the care services.
However, its association with issues like,
lack of response, limited detailed
information, and authenticity of the
information are some of the disadvantages,
which are also needed to be taken into
consideration (Cottrell et al., 2015).
Feedback forms- This is another
mentionable method for gathering internal
perspective about the quality of delivered
care services. It is with the help of feedback
forms, care users can effectively convey their
opinion about the quality of care services
received on their end and any kind of issues
that they are experiencing with the care
services.
Hence, this would turn out to be effective of
the care providing organization in identifying
areas of improvement and bring necessary
changes (Soler et al., 2010).
In regards to external perspectives
mentionable methods are:
CQC inspection- With the help of CQC
inspection, the areas of care services in
which, quality improvement is required, can
be effective identified, based on which
quality improvement measures can be
initiated. This method is effective in
understanding the external perspective in
regards to the quality of care services
(Torjesen, 2013).
Auditing- Conducting external audit with the
help of specific organizations is also helpful
in understanding the quality of care services
and associated areas of flaw from the external
perspective. Based on the audit report,
specific strategies can be taken for improving
the quality of care services. However, one of
the mentionable issue with the method is, it is
time consuming and creates additional
financial burden on individuals that cannot be
ignored (Busch, 2012).
With the help of these methods, Royal
London Hospital can identify areas of
improvement and take necessary initiatives.
Impact of incorporating services users in
the evaluation process on service quality
It has been recognized that the inclusion of
service user in service assessment process
have significant effect on enhancement of
quality of care services. In favour of this, it
can be stated that the inclusion of care user in
the evaluation process may make contrastive
results as contrast with other evaluation
process (Zhao, Lu, Zhang, and Chau, 2012).
It is because the people are service users who
receive the care service. On the part of the
care providing organization, effective
involvement of the care users in the
evaluation process would contribute in
effective need identification. It is recognized
that the better need identification encourages
quality improvement. For instance, the
patient visit the care providing organization
for treatment, as observed in case of Royal
London Hospital and there, has been issues
with quality of care like issue with safety
standards (Cqc.org.uk, 2019). The experience
of care users from the received care services
along with their feedback, which would act
as a major resource for care providing
organization in recognizing the areas of
service provision that needs improvement.
Hence, effective involvement of care users in
the evaluation process would help in
identification of the care needs and enhance
the quality of care services accordingly. It is
essential for care providing organizations to
incorporate care users for improving care
quality and identify the areas the required
improvement.
