Formation Stage of Pyeongchang Winter Olympics
There were three cities that had applied with the bids for hosting 2018 Winter
Olympics along with Paralympics. Three bids had been received by International Olympic
Committee under leadership of that of Jacques Rogge. The three cities were Annecy, Munich
along with Pyeongchang. The announcement of the winning bid was done on the 6th of July in
the year 2011 by the President of International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge. In the
formation stage of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics that was held in South Korea in the
year 2018, it was visited by International Olympic Committee Coordination Commission to
ensure that the infrastructure and the venues had been prepared well for the grand occasion.
The Commission visited the Gangneung Olympic Park and it was joined by the students from
the Gangneung Haeram Middle School (Park et al. 2017, p. 328). It helped the young
enthusiastic fans in knowing about the Olympic Sport and the ideals with the help of the
education programme of PyeongChang. The Commission had also visited Gangneung
Olympic Village that can house around 1000 athletes at the time of the Games. The Olympic
Village can provide legacy to that of Olympic Winter Games (Gold and Gold 2016, p. 67).
The apartments of Olympic Village had been sold for that of residential use after Olympic
along with the Paralympic Winter Games (Gold 2016, p. 45). The members of the
Coordination Commission stopped at the legacy site where it visited the high speed train
station that was at Jinbu .This train can act like an additional transport option for the people
who would be coming from that of Seoul for the Olympic Games. It will connect Seoul to
that of Alpensia mountain region along with the Gangneung Coastal areas.
