EVENTS POLICY AND STRATEGY1
Australia is a country of great events. Several events keep on happening all over the
country throughout the year. Events like arts and exhibitions, culture and community events,
food and drinks, music festival and live shows and sports events are very common in Australia
(Jones, 2017). The following paragraph discusses about the personal experience of one such
great event that I have attended recently.
The event that I experienced falls under the cultural and community event. It is the
Henley-on-Todd Regatta event. It is basically a quirky boat race that is held on an annual basis.
It is held at Alice Spring’s dry sand bed of Todd River. It is the only event that hosts a dry river
boating competition in the world (Pers. Exp. 01). Many people from around the world gather in
this event to compete against each other and have fun (Alicesprings.nt.gov.au, 2019). Apart from
boat competitions it has several other sports events that are related to boating, ships and other
river and sea related activities. The people compete in the boat races in the style of Flintstones.
They hold a metal boat frame and run across the finish line. On the final day of the event a battle
takes place between three teams having motorized battleship along with flour bombs and water
cannons. Solo events also take place and team consists of a member of 10.
The name of the event has been derived from the famous event Henley Royal Regatta, a
rowing event that is held every year in river Thames. The creator of this event was Reg Smith
who started this event in December 1962. The event is organized in order to raise money for
charity. The event took place on 17th August, 2019 at Snow Kenna Park, Wills Tce. The costs of
tickets for the adults were $22 and children were $5.50. The event is considered as one of the
major events of Australia as it attracts a number of local and international participants. The
whole event is also captured by various TV and news channels. The outback madness becomes a
lot of fun as people from various regions start interacting with each other and enjoy together. The
