This report is concerned with the examination of the case of famous Michelin star chef
Marcus Donoghue and his alleged murder through car hit. The prime suspects in the case
have been identified as Marcus’ wife Jennifer and Mountfond that are believed to have
different motives of murdering Marcus. This report takes into account the testimonials of the
witnesses, materials collected by the police and circumstantial evidence. Based on the
thorough examination of all the evidences and the case, I have documented my response to
the case.

REPORT WRITING
1) Introduction: Facts of the case
On the 14th of August, between 11pm and 11:30 pm a celebrity chef named Marcus
Donoghue while cycling was knocked down by a facing car as reported by the police and the
media. There was no CCTV footage of the crime scene and therefore, the police have built
the case based on circumstantial evidence. Marcus Donoghue was the owner of the Michelin
star restaurant and was a popular figure in both his hometown in Greater Molling as well as
in Gigglestown. The police have suspected the wife of Marcus, Jennnifer Donoghue in
reference to the case.
2) Identify if you believe you are in possession of enough evidence to
prosecute someone.
I believe Marcus Donoghu’s wife to be the prime suspect. Based on the police report
on Marcus’s laptop it can be found that Marcus’s search history show that he had accessed
sites that catered to extra-marital services. I believe not just Jennifer Donoghue but there can
be the possibility of other suspects in this case being a prime suspect. The other suspect to the
case maybe James Mountford who is the manor of Gigglestown. His objective is to focus on
establishing the Grey Goose, that is currently a gastro-pub into a premier restaurant named
Giggleshire. I find him a possible suspect of the crime given the database of Marcus’s laptop.
From the search history of Marcus’s database it can be seen that the top search included about
elite restaurants in Gigglestown are selling cheap alternatives of horsemeat in the name of
Giggleshire beef. It may be argued that James Mountford’s restaurant may be behind this
entire situation and because of his power and influence. Because of his position, he had
access to people who could have done the crime of killing Marcus might have been looked as

a potential threat to this illegal business of the manor and therefore, it may be assumed that he
murdered Marcus through the help of an assassin or he himself might be involved.
However, it cannot be denied that Jennifer Donoghue is also a possible suspect as
there is circumstantial evidence to believe that Marcus was involved in an extra-marital affair
based on the search history of his laptop. In his laptop, it was found that the display name is
Stew with no picture. This may be an attempt to keep his identity incognito. In the search
history it is found that there is a search for women between the ages of 38 and 44. Therefore,
it may be assumed that Marcus was involved in extra-marital affair and was looking for
women on dating websites for this purpose. It may be assumed that Jennifer Donoghue came
to know about his husband’s infidelity and therefore planned a cold-blooded murder. It may
also be assumed that Marcus was on his way to meet with the woman with whom he was
having an extra-marital affair and followed him that day in his trail. Therefore, it may not be
a planned murder but a crime of passion.
3) Argument detailing the sources / pieces of evidence to support my
position,
Based on the testimonial of James Mountford, it can be found that he was the
only person along with two other people who was present during the crime scene. Therefore,
it is difficult to rely on his testimonials about that he was not being involved in the crime. It
may be argued that his testimonial about the speeding silver Audi may be an attempt to
distract the police or may be shift the accusation to Jennifer Donoghue. This was found from
the character witness statement of Geoff Howes. It has been established through the
testimonials of Goeff Howes that Marcus and Jennifer had a dysfunctional marriage and
Jennifer tricked Marcus into the marriage. Therefore, the possibility of an extra-marital affair
cannot be ruled out. Marcus was planning to divorce Jennifer but did not wish to pay a hefty

amount of alimony therefore, he wanted to prove in some way that it was Jennifer who was at
fault and through this earn the reprieve. This evidence was found from the police internal
memo.
Justification of the sources that do not support my position and why have I
decided to disregard them.
Sources and materials that do not support my position about Jennifer Donoghue and
James Mountford being the prime suspects are their respective testimonials along with the
character certificate of Marcus as supplemented by Geoff Howes who is the restaurant
manager of the Queen of Hearts (based on the police internal memo and the character witness
statement of Donoghue). According to the testimonial of Jennifer Donoghue, during the time
of this suspected murder she was in her sister’s house. The second evidence that do not
support my statement is that she went out with the Volvo and not the Audi (this car was
considered the murder weapon in this case). In case of James Mountford, he is a reputed
public figure and involving himself in murder would tarnish his image in the society that he
established over the tear. Secondly, such accusation on him would also dilute the popularity
of his restaurant as a result of which he would face a huge loss of revenue. The accusation of
infidelity on Marcus and therefore, Jennifer’s possible crime of passion or planned murder
can be dismissed through the statement of Marcus who is a man of fine character as
established by George Howes.
4) A brief conclusion summing up the evidence and recommendations for
future action
After studying this case of Marcus’s murder, I assume that not just one but more than
two parties were involved in the crime based on the circumstantial evidence found by the

police. It is because the way the evidence was destroyed and the multiple testimonials
presented by the witness and examination of the materials prove that it may be either a
planned murder or a murder of passion. The possible suspects are Jennifer Donoghue and
James Mountford.
