PICO question: Is family therapy is more effective than psychoeducation in reducing the
withdrawn of the family member involved the treatment of the patient in the hospice care.
Hospice care is demarcated as the care provided to the patient in their final phase of the
terminal illness. In this phase of the terminal illness, the patient requires additional care and
attention from the family member or the carer. The care of the patient at this phase of the illness
focusses on the quality and the comfort of the life and survival rather than just cure. The primary
goal of the healthcare staff and the family member involved in the hospice care is to enable the
patient suffering from pain to be comfortable and free of pain in order to provide them standard
quality of life till they live. However, in some cases, it is observed that the family members
involved in the care are withdrawn during the treatment which leads to further health
deterioration of the patient’s health.
In such case, different interventions are used to reduce the withdrawal of the family
member or the carer, involved in the hospice care of the patient. Two most common
interventions are psychoeducation and family therapy.
Family therapy is demarcated as the type of the psychological counseling or
psychotherapy which assists the family member involved in the hospice or palliative care of the

patient. The family members involved in the care are counseled about the condition of the patient
and the strategies that help to improve the wellbeing of the patient.
Another theory is the psychoeducation, which is the type of the psychological education
which assist to provide information and education to the individual suffering from any terminal
illness regarding the intervention that can be used in the treatment of the patient. The family
members of the patient are also educated with the help of Psychoeducation.
From the above discussed method, the family therapy is found to be more effective than
that of the psychoeducation, as the family therapy mainly focusses on the problems of the family.
2. literature search is the well-organized and systematic process to search evidence or literature
related to a certain topic from the published articles. It helps to evaluate one of the best
evidence available. It is one of the primary step in conducting a quality based research to
gather information from the peer reviewed article. It assists in developing the research
question and then planning the study accordingly. Literature search can be conducted by
using different databases such as, Cochrane, Embass, JBI, MEDLINE, CINAHL and many
others. One of the major reason for conducting literature search is to collect information from
different literature to make evidence based guidelines, to conduct academic assessment.
Literature search is extremely important to gather evidence based information. The two
databases that is used here to search for the evidence are:
PubMed: PubMed is the search engine which help to search different references and the
abstracts based on the life sciences and the topic related to the biomedical. This database is
maintained by the United States national library of medicine. It is considered as the part of
the information retrieval and the Entrez system. The PubMed is used to access different

literature by entering different key aspects of the subjects into the search window of the
PubMed. According to the NCBI the PubMed is stated to be contain around 29 million
different citations for the literature of the biomedical from the MEDLINE database, journals
of the life science and the books available online.
Cochrane: Cochrane which is also known as the Cochrane collaboration is developed to
categorize the findings of the medical research in order to facilitate the choices based on the
evidence related to the interventions that can be used by the healthcare professional in the
treatment of the patient suffering from any illness and also for the policy makers. This
database contains about 53 groups of the review which are based at the global research
worldwide. The review groups conducts the reviews such as, systematic reviews of the
diagnostic tests and the healthcare intervention and then publishes them into the Cochrane
library. In the Cochrane database, different number of the experts from all around the worlds
participate voluntarily. Total number of volunteer experts is expected to be involves is
around 30,000.
3. Search strategy is demarcated as the strategy that can be used in the literature search to gather
evidence from the most relevant article. It is structure of the key forms in the organized way
in order to conduct the search to retrieve the most relevant and the accurate article. The
search strategy is said to be account for the all the possible terms with the help of which the
literature search can be done and along with that, phrases and key words are also used.
Applying a search strategy in the case of the literature search is very essential as it
makes the search for the relevant articles more easy as compared to the search conducting
without using search strategy.

Database Search strategy
Cochrane Cochrane is used to retrieve evidence from the
relevant articles. In order to evaluate the
relevant article, search strategy which is
conducted are as follows:
1. To evaluate the current article, time period
of the search is fixed. The articles are
which are studies between the year of 2014
and the 2019.
2. Boolean opeartors is applied in order to
evaluate the more relevant articles. The
Boolean logic contains AND and OR. It
helps to assist the most relevant articles.
3. Different key words and phrases are used
to evaluate more relevant articles.
4. The language of the literature is selected to
retrieve the best evidence available for the
topic.
5. Synonyms are also used for the relevant
articles.
