Discussion:
1. a) An evidence-based practice (EBP) is considered as any practice which relies on research
evidence for assistance and decision-making (Yingfeng et al., 2016). The importance of the
evidence based practice is that it aims to deliver the most suitable and effective care based on
the research so that patient outcomes can be improved.
b) The PICO process is a framework which is used in evidence based in order to frame and
answer a clinical or health care related question (Considine et al., 2017). The elements of the
process include population, invention, comparison and outcome. Sometimes type or time is used
for the type of the study.
c) In population of 45-60 with rheumatoid arthritis, is short-term low-dose corticosteroids is
effective compared to NSAIDS?
d) The background of the study is that in patients with rheumatoid arthritis NSAIDS can reduce
the pain of the arthritis but increase the feeling of nausea. The prime reason behind it is that
NSAIDS facilitate ulcer by interfering with the ability of stomach to protect itself from the
gastric acids as the protective barriers are compromised.
e) Population: population of 45-60 with rheumatoid arthritis
Intervention: short-term low-dose corticosteroids
Comparison: NSAIDS
Outcome: reduction of pain and nausea
