PARTNERING IN CARE
Introduction
The patients' experiences have affected the quality of health care that is offered by the
nurses in hospitals. The chosen scenario is the Age 75 patient experience which involves both
Mr. William and Natasha. Mr. William shares his experiences in the health sector, beginning
with several illnesses that he has faced and the treatment that he has had from the nurses.
Natasha has offered a chance to William for him to express how best the nurses should carry out
their nursing profession considering his experiences. Moreover, the Gibbs six-stage reflection
framework has proven to allow planning for things that go well or fail to succeed. The stages
involve description, evaluation, analysis, feelings, and conclusion together with an action plan.
Moreover, the major theories to be considered include the need theory, the self-care nursing
theory, and also the nursing philosophy of care. The main points to be looked into include the
benefits that come with sharing experiences.
Description
Mr. William had several injuries when he knocked a piece of concrete, and this led to the
wrecking of his right shoulder together with some damage in his nose and even chin, and this
happened when he was walking back from the shop. There was no one who was present during
the incidence, and this forced him to swivel onto his backside before getting up. Moreover, he
was in terrible pain during the whole process. When he reached his home, Mr. William refused
to be rushed to the hospital but he decided to wait for his GP, and this was after he went for an x-
ray. The reason as to why he refused to be taken to the hospital was because he had been kept
waiting for over eleven hours the last time he went for medication. He had been suffering from

kidney stones, and he felt as if the nurses were not concerned about his pain; hence, he chose to
wait for his GP. Some of the themes that are evident out of the patient's experience are on patient
focus which involves offering the patients the critical attention needed to get to understand the
patient in the best way possible and to offer the best care. Furthermore, the other theme that is
evident is on quality improvement, and this involves development in the type of care that is
granted to the patients when it comes to medication.
Feelings and thoughts
Considering the patient's experiences, it is evident that I felt sad about how much pain he
had to undergo even at the hands of the nurses. He has been diagnosed with several conditions
such as having a kidney stone, and it was worrying to see the nurses ignoring his health even in
his critical state and pain while still in the hospital. Moreover, he was diagnosed with anemia
which meant that his iron composition was deteriorating and his hemoglobin state was worrying.
The patient should take it upon himself to find the best solution to his health condition and if
possible, continue consulting his GP to ensure that he does what is needed to come out of his
health condition (Johnson, 2018).
Values and beliefs
Some of my ideas when it comes to nursing include the fact that patients need the best
care at any given time no matter the conditions and that exposing a patient to severe pain is
against the trust that they may be having for any health institution. Moreover, this is about the
pain that Mr. William has to face when he gets injured, including the moment he went seeking
medication due to developing a kidney stone condition. Accountability is one of the values that I
believe should exist in any given nursing care unit, especially among the nurses, when it comes

to offering their services to the patients. They should also get to hear from the patients
concerning their experiences to ensure no future mistakes are made.
Analysis
Mr. William had come across various conditions, including the injuries he suffered when
he knocked a piece of concrete. He had to survive on pain killers before he sought for treatment
where he underwent surgery. Furthermore, it was discovered that he had a thirty-centimeter tear
in his muscle, and this lead to him to keep off several activities such as driving. He could not get
the best solution after his GP informed him of how difficult it will be to correct the situation. Mr.
William had also been kept waiting in the hospital when he went to seek medication concerning
his condition of having a kidney stone where he waited for over eleven hours before being
considered. He was forced to use pain killers which were odd to him at that time, and this made
him avoid public hospitals due to the poor health care offered.
Moreover, Mr. William had to find a psychologist to help him with his current situation,
and this proved to be working especially after confessing that the psychologist helped him to
know how to use his arm together with the other arm and this could also involve another aids that
might be of help to him. Furthermore, after being found to have anemia, it is clear that Mr.
William failed to get answers concerning why he was anemic, and this was majorly due to the
poor services that were offered in the hospital that made it hard for him to get to know why he
was in such condition at that time. He had to be using iron tablets to keep balance. Moreover, he
was offered a cam pill to help in coming up with a final solution on why he was anemic.
Furthermore, he had his inferior tubernates reduced, and this was meant to help him when it
came to breathing efficiently. The other medications that he is exposed to include cetirizine that
is intended for rhinitis, he is also exposed to amlodipine together with Indocin, and these are

meant for his blood pressure. Moreover, he is exposed to Flomax tablets which majorly meant to
correct his prostate condition. Furthermore, this clearly shows how nursing care can affect an
individual in one way or another, especially when you are not exposed to the best care at the
right time (MacQueen, 2018).
Conclusion Drawn
Considering the whole situation, it is evident that patient or even family care is crucial
when it comes to saving lives. Most of the patient’s need quality nursing care for them to be
assured of their health; hence, it is upon the nurses to consider offering the best services to the
patients. One positive fact that can be gotten from the discussion is the fact that partners are
important when it comes to improving nursing care and this includes the various experiences that
the patients have gone through when seeking medication. Moreover, this is known to offer
guidance on how best to treat patients in any given health condition at any given point in time.
Ignoring the patients' experiences when it comes to nursing care cannot offer a better solution to
the challenges that are well known by the patients.
Action plan
The action plan to be considered is a wellness plan for the nurses which is supposed to
motivate them in their duty. The nurses are assured of their health and even well-being.
Moreover, they are charged with the responsibility of offering the best services to the patients.
The nurses will be in a good position to get to realize that their services are appreciated and that
they should offer the best. Moreover, this is also meant to boost the quality of healthcare that
they offer to the patients. Furthermore, the creation of more well-informed diagnoses is likely to
be boosted, especially due to the need to improve nursing care in any given institution. The

various diagnoses are to be offered at the right time and in the best way to ensure that the
patients get the best care.
Conclusion
Nursing care is one of the most important aspects when it comes to offering better
healthcare, and there is a need for the qualified nurses to take it upon themselves to stay current
and improve their knowledge in the medical world. Nurses should be keen in whatever services
that they are offering the patients to ensure that the patients get the best care. Moreover, the
patient's experience can provide a solution for some of the nursing care challenges by the time
the patients will be considered to be partners in care. Most of the patients have experienced
tremendous situations that need to be made clear to the health institutions and help in improving
the nursing care offered every day. Nursing care should be enhanced considering the various
challenges that the patients are undergoing and the nurses should take advantage of the patient's
experiences.
