Part 1
Lab report
This is a report of tensile test experiment
Introduction of lab report
For safety of any construction project like bridges and aircraft then,
then material use should be analyzed very well .Therefore, for a good
construction project, the material tensile strength should attain the
necessary structural requirement . Any engineering application require
certain types of materials base on their structure properties. Material
properties can only be predict through tensile test experiment where by
specimen are being subjected to axial force (Davies, 2004).The
application of load is done until deformation causes failure of the
specimen. Then the ultimate stress and displacement are recorded for
the purposes of calculation and finding of stress-strain relationship.
The original dimension: length, diameter, cross sectional area should

be recorded as it is very important during the time of calculation
(Micheal, F.Asby, 2013)
Aim
To analyze the tensile strength of the Aluminum material and Mild
materials specimen.
Aluminum
Mild steel
Objective
To find out the mechanical properties of Mild steel and
Aluminum when subjected to a certain load.
To find out the relationship between Mild steel and Aluminum
through the readings obtain from stress-strain graph
Material and equipment
The following are material and equipment which support
this experiment
Sample of Aluminum
Ruler
Vernier calipers
Sample of mild steel
Universal testing machine
Failure Analysis Projects As Teaching Tools_4
Procedures
i. We measure the width and the length of sample specimen using
vernier calipers. And found to be 40mm for aluminum and
34.35 for mild steel
ii. We use rule to confirm dimensions of the specimen
iii. The machine software which record data was activated
iv. Make the load cell to be zero
v. The adjustment of the jaws was done to fit the specimen, then
the extensometer was attach to the reduce section of the gauge
specimen
vi. After removing the specimen, the adjustment is set to zero for
it to begin measuring strain of the specimen
vii. The results is being recorded to the spreadsheet by the
computer program
viii. Data from spreadsheet are retrieve back for the purpose of
calculation
Original parameters of Mild steel Original parameters of Aluminum
