In essence, the importance of families in nursing practice can never be underestimated.
Apparently, according to the narrator, family is regarded as one of the main reason why patients
fight an illness with an aim of getting better. For instance, a patient may fight to get well to be
reunited with his or her family at home (Kaakinen, Coehlo, Steele, & Robinson, 2018). In case a
family member gets sick, it is important for that individual to be close to the family to get some
hopes. In this case, families do not lose hope but instead, they maintain their presence in hospital
to encourage their patient (Friedman, Bowden, & Jones, 2003). In this case, families even go to
an extent of changing their schedules to be able to visit the member of the family in the hospital
(Rolland, Emanuel, & Torke, 2017). Due to the enormous family connection that a patient may
experience, one may get inspiration and fight through an illness (Friedman et al., 2003). It is;
therefore, clear that a patient may have to rely not only on the hope provided by family members
at the hospital but also for comfort.

Studying family in nursing practice has gained traction in recent times particularly to
increase the quality of life of patients. By studying families in the field of nursing helps to
strengthen patient’s healthcare, as well as the entire outcome, given the fact that it is one of the
best satisfaction and a source of happiness for most individuals (Friedman et al., 2003). As a
result, it is important for nurses to study families as they tend to occur in different forms such as
the nuclear, biological, sole-parents, homosexual families, and stepfamilies (Creswell & Clark,
2017). Learning families as a nurse is helpful because one gets to interact with them on a daily
basis. The overall illness of a patient affects family members and it is, therefore, crucial for one
