About This Document

Female foeticide is the act of terminating female fetuses in the womb due to the desire for a male child. This practice is deeply ingrained in society and is prevalent across all classes and castes. Despite laws prohibiting prenatal sex determination, people still find ways to determine the gender of the child and often terminate the pregnancy if it is a girl. This practice is still common in India and has a negative impact on women. The issue of female foeticide has historical roots, with attitudes towards girl children shifting over time. In a patriarchal society, the birth of a female child is often considered a disaster, while sons are preferred. The development of science and technology has allowed for sex selection and the termination of female fetuses, despite laws prohibiting this practice.
