Introduction
Feminism and gender equality is the most common issue in the recent era and it has drawn
significant concern of the society. The woman status today is quite controversial topic which
is difficult to be defined. Status of any individual in the society is his position in such society
in comparison to others. The reason behind the controversy is that the woman is considered
as the human beings with weaker gender than the men and therefore their status is quite lower
in today’s society. Such differentiation between the gender of a man and woman in the
society is commonly recognised as the problem of ‘’gender inequality’’. In today’s society is
the major concern is the female abuse faced by the women as a result of male dominance. In
the typical societies in the existing world men are considered the principle holder of all the
economic as well as political powers.
Thesis Statement: The gender structure of the society consists of feminine and masculinity
and still masculinity is given more value and recognition in the society. However, it is an
important fact to observe that woman rights and status has been improved since last decade as
they were worst during that period of time (Connell, 2011).
Feminism and Gender Equality:
The severe issues in the existing world such as dowry system, rape cases, domestic violence,
prostitution etc. have shown the status of a woman in today’s society. Due to the lower status
of women, they are being consistently exploited by the male section of the society. These
problems of gender inequality actually cause under-development of a country. When in the
male dominated society, the females are not allowed to go out for work (jobs), the country is
not able to utilise its productivity for the capital formation as these economies does not utilise

half of its human resources. It happens merely because of the fact that it is generally believed
that woman must stay at home and they should not compete men of the country as they do not
possess the requisite strength and power as possessed by men.
In a demographic society, the most key moral principle is the gender equality that must be
pursued by each and every member of the society. It is highly important for any country to
give due respect to the concern called gender equality in order to function well. When it is
believed by one gender of the society that it holds stronger position than the other gender, the
problem of gender inequality rises (Biggs, Gingell & Downe, 2011). This belief causes strong
male dominance over the females of any society.
Domestic violence is the typical example that proves that still the status of woman is
considered too low and powerless when compared to men. The male dominated society or
country treats woman as their property who should only live as per the wills of the males to
whom they belong. Thus gender equality must be focused as an important ethical concern.
Gender equality issue is primarily related to human values as well as the socially
designed process of human values development. In recent times, there are various
organisations that function for the social cause of protecting and promoting the rights of
woman in each society. A broad range of reforms have been introduced particularly in the
developed nations to achieve true equality for the women. It has been taught to the women in
the existing societies that they should be focused on building their independence in the social
life and also while maintaining their personal relationship with men.
Feminism is the concept that entails a wide spectrum of political movements, beliefs,
social movements, ideologies and opinion which share a common motive: to define, establish
and achieve the equality of sexes in political, social, personal and economic aspects (Hebert,
2007). It is the belief that each and every woman of the country must have the identical
