The Youth Firearms Violence Initiative was set up to provide aid to the law
enforcement agencies for developing strategies and programs so that firearm violence by
youths can be combated. The police officers had provided monetary help to ten other police
departments globally to hold up the focused efforts of enforcement for combating the rise of
youth firearm violence. Juveniles who have grown up in the United States commit violent
criminal activities (Campie et al., 2017). The juveniles residing in the United States
committed street based activities. Handguns had become the choice of weapons for the
juveniles.
The Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services of
United States established the Youth Firearms Violence Initiative (YFVI) in 1995. The
violence among juveniles had ascended and seemed to be persuaded by any previous
attempted interventions. The strategies introduced by the YFVI highlighted the areas of
schools, streets and communities. Such strategies are established in the street based activities,
weapons are recovered from the juvenile criminals (Cole et al., 2018). The purpose of these
strategies are to decrease the probability of crimes committed by the juveniles. For reducing
the use of juvenile weapons, police departments were made to work together with the
agencies of other cities for promoting education and promotion on intervention and
prevention programs engaged with handguns. Community based programs were established
to focal point on youth handgun violence. Jurisdictions were also encouraged to hire
community policing strategies. Certain programs were designed in ways to reduce the
number of violent firearms crimes committed by the youth. However, there are strategies that
help to reduce the gun violence. Maximum number of sites that were put to use in street
based operations attributed in the traditional enforcement tactics department. Therefore, the
potential of evaluability was treated to be reduced for those departments who aimed at the
prevention and education (Aizer & Doyle, 2015). There must be an alteration in the level of

crimes that are associated with guns because it is a critical ingredient of the impact
evaluation. There are existing organizations that are working to get the guns out of the hands
and control of young people. Youth dealing with weapons must be given training and
education for restricting them in using the weapons. Leal steps are also taken to limit the
probability of using firearms by juveniles. Legal policies have been introduced to decrease
the quantity and type of people eligible to own firearms. Preventive services, reducing of
fear, working with witnesses to violence, public education, decreasing availability and
making strict regulation are ways to prohibit the usage of weapons by the juvenile.
Opportunities must be provided for improvement of the juveniles who handle guns. Limiting
the flow of illegal guns will be beneficial in reducing the quantity of juvenile crimes.
The Youth Firearms Violence Initiative had put effort in diminishing the rate of
juvenile weapon crimes that depended on the initiative and consistency of their focus (Carter
et al., 2016). If any youth offender or juvenile are noticed handling firearms, they will be put
under probation by the police department. Gang members can also be put under probation if
seen handling with guns.
