Introduction
Business development plan is defined as strategic plan to develop the business with
the help of implementation of different tactics and ideas. Business development plan
used to set objectives and defines strategies in order to achieve them(Karunia, 2021). In
context to Five Guys Burgers and Fries, it is a fast food restaurant chain that operates in
various regions along with London, United Kingdom. The Five Guys restaurant founded
by Jerry Murrell and Janie Murrell in the year of 1986 and serves hot dogs, French fries,
hamburgers, milkshakes and soft drinks etc. The report will include the management
practices with performance review techniques and improvement plan of the business. It
will further describe the recommendations to improve performances and conclusion at
the end.

Management practices used to enhance the effectiveness of the work with the help of
innovations and creativity approaches. There are various common management
practices involved in the Five Guys such as training & development of staff, selective
hiring, introducing new technology, flow of information and introducing methods for
quality improvement(Taha and et. al., 2020). There are some examples of best
management practices involved in the food service management of the Five Guys as
following:
 Engagement: The food service managers of the Five Guys engage on what they
can control and manage. They focus on what is important for the growth of
business of Five Guys.
 To building strong team: The food service managers of the Five Guys
restaurant first search for the talents and then for the customers. They focus on
to build a strong teams in the business. The managers at the Five Guys required
to train the employees & cooking staff to provide quality food services.

 Serving: Serving better is one of the important management practices of the
Five Guys in the UK. The management follow that good service referred to never
have to ask for anything.
 Management of waste: The management at the Five Guys restaurant use
convert waste into money policy at the restaurant. The manager focuses on
produce customized food products.
Performance review techniques
Performance review techniques in the food service management helps to monitor and
control quality of food products in the Five Guys restaurant in the United Kingdom. It
helps to improve the performance of the business.
 Quality control in the Five Guys is necessary in order to predict and control the
overall process from farm to the fork. Hence, customers get quality product
according to their expectations(Vivaldini, 2021).
 Food manufacturers in the food service management of the Five Guys introduced
control or monitoring points in the entire process which helps to evaluating the
quality attributes at each batch.
 There are X-ray machine, metal detectors and weighing machines are installed in
the production process of food service management. Such technology used to
identify defective products, metal identification and to pack products with proper
weight.
 Food safety management and quality control is a foremost responsibility of
everyone involve in the chain of production and food process system. It requires
proper monitoring and operating procedures at each stage.
Implementation plan for organizational challenges
There are various challenges faced by the organisation in the food service
management. The main thing is that how well the company react to such challenges
and how it can implement strategies in order to make business successful(Zorpas,
2020). Five Guys uses problem solving strategies to solve the particular problem within

the company. There are various steps involved in the implementation plan in order to
identify and effectively solve the problems in the food service management of the Five
Guys as following:
 Identifying the objectives: It is first step involved in the implementation plan is
to identify the problem or goal. It arises with ‘What’. It defines that what is the
problem such as customer oriented problem or employee management issue. It
can be either with suppliers or distributors of raw materials. It further includes the
frequency of issues and generic factors behind such challenges. It helps to
define objectives by identifying issues.
 Identifying the root cause: After identifying the challenges or objectives it is
required to find out the various aspect of this challenges. It includes why these
issues are arising. If the issue is related with customer centric then it is rising due
to the low quality and poor services of the food products at the restaurant of Five
Guys. This process is basically identifying the root cause of the problem in order
to make effective plan.
 Brainstorming the solutions: After identifying the objectives to solve the
problems. Now, it is required to analyse the potential risk involved in the
implementation plan to resolve these issues. In this process of brainstorming
used to generate various ideas and plan in order to provide solution. It helps to
find out the best possible approach to achieve objectives.
 Selecting appropriate solution: After brainstorming there are various ideas and
approaches for achieving objectives comes up. Now it is required to select the
most suitable idea for the implementation plan which can resolve the challenges
faced by the organisation in the food service management.
 Implementation the plan: In this stage, the appropriate idea is then
implemented in the organisation in order to meet the objectives of Five Guys.
Here the plan should be effective which can resolve the issues and challenges
faced by the Five Guys restaurants in the United Kingdom.
 Evaluating the solutions: It is the final stage involved in the implementation of
plan. After implementing the plan, it is required to check the outcomes that

whether the solution worked or not in order to overcome from organisational
challenges.
Recommendations to improve performances
There are several recommendations in order to improve the performance of the food
service management in the Five Guys restaurant. It can be achieved with the help of
SMART approach that includes Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time
based plans(Latham, 2020). This approach can help the company to evaluate the
performance of the employee of Five Guys.

 Specific: Five Guys needs to be more specific in order to create vision and
objectives. It should be clear and concise that is understandable to everyone in
the company. It helps the food service manager to evaluate the performance of
the restaurant. It is also helpful to increase the focus and direction of the
employees.
 Measurable: Objectives without any measured outcomes is like sports event
without having scorecard. Five Guys can use various approaches in order to
track the performance of the goals. For example, Five Guys introduced the

customized burger now the company requires to measure that how many
customers actually liked it or not.
 Achievable: It includes that Five Guys should not defines those objectives that
cannot be achieved. Objectives that are hard to achieve leads to discourage
employees and ultimately reduce their performances.
 Relevant: Whatever the food product introduced by the Five Guys in the
restaurant should be relevant with the customers. Customer’s demographics and
psychographics should be considered to make relevant dish or food product.
 Time based objectives: The objectives defined by the Five Guys should be
timely bound. They should be achievable in prespecified time. The customer
order services should also be timely bound. It increases the customer
satisfaction.
Conclusion
From the above mentioned report, it is concluded that how business development plan
used to set objectives and to defines strategies in order to achieve them. It included the
management practices with performance review techniques. It described the
implementation plan for the organisational challenges. It further described the
recommendations to improve the performance of Five Guys restaurant.
