The food poverty is considered as lack of readily available food items that is used for
nourishing the human body and that can lead to the situations such as starvation and hunger.
Food poverty occurs due to the extreme poverty of the peoples which happens due to the
factor of natural disasters or economic depression. The food poverty has become a global
issue which has also affected the UK. In the following section a secondary research is done
regarding food poverty in the UK.
According to the authors O'Connell et al. (2019), in UK the economic phenomenon
and the polices have impacted the abilities of the families to feed themselves. In this research
the authors have mainly identified the type of UK families that are facing food poverty risk
over the time. Here, the authors have taken a relative deprivation approach and has compared
the actual food expenditure by different type of families between the timespan of 2005 to
2013. The authors have identified that the families which are spending less than the overall
expectation can be at the risk of food poverty. From the analysis it has been also reported that
this proportion have been increased for two type of families. First the proportion have been
increased for the large families and secondly this have been increased for the families with
lone parents.
In this paper the authors Knight, O'Connell and Brannen (2018), has drawn some
important findings regarding the food poverty in UK through a study which is known as
‘Families and Food in Hard Times’. This study has examined the food poverty within the
families and children in total three countries of Europe which includes the UK. In research
that performed in UK qualitative interviews were taken. From the narration of the young
people of UK, the food poverty can be considered as a multi-dimensional experience which
includes poor quality of food, hunger and social exclusion. From the analysis it has been

analysis it has been assessed that how the young peoples in UK contribute towards family’s
food management practices in constrained circumstances. In most of the general cases the
young people contest the dominant discourses which blames families and individual food
poverty.
From another research the authors Knight and Brannen (2019), has elaborated the
food poverty situation in UK. According to the authors food poverty has become one of the
important social and moral in UK. Perspective of the children regarding food poverty are
absent from public disclosure where in this research it has been assessed that experiences of
them are often abstracted from their own family circumstances. It has been estimated that
almost 8.4 million peoples in UK struggle to get enough amount food. These peoples include
many households including many working peoples, families with children and this list also
includes the disabled and old peoples. In most of the cases this type of food insecurity occurs
due to either financial crisis or financial circumstances. From various of aspects it has been
identified that low wages are one of the crucial factors due to which many families face the
food poverty in UK.
Here, the authors Loopstra and Lalor (2017), has performed a different type of study
where they have analysed Trussell Trust which is the largest food bank network in UK. From
the analysis, the authors have discovered several of important aspects. First, they have
assessed that household incomes are in low level in regards of income distribution. Also, it
has been identified that single males, lone parents with their children has often used the
foodbanks compared with the other persons. Also, from the study of Trussell Trust it has
been identified that in 2016 they have provided total 1.2 million of emergency food supply
packages where in 2009 this number was only 41,000 packages. This data shows that how the
