Food security is defined as situation where all people of a nation/region have access to
adequate food to meet their dietary needs without posing any risks to their health. For food
security to exist, there must be access to adequate food and the food must be safe for human
consumption. The Cuban agriculture program make use of the available local resources to
maximize agricultural output in urban areas (Badgley et al., 2007). The program ensures that
the output is as much as possible while the cost of production relatively cheap and affordable.
There are limitations however. One of these is the scarcity of land for agriculture especially
in densely populated areas. The second limitation is the destruction of plants by pests or
diseases. This however depend on the location of the farming place and the season of the
year. This type of urban agriculture could work in the United States. This is because it
requires use of very little amounts of land. The cost of production is also relatively cheap as it
employs the use of available resources. Things would even be better in the United States as
the country has more advanced agricultural technology. It follows that the program could be
practised in the United States. In the Unites States, urban farming is slowly gaining
momentum. The reason for this in availability of unused land and increasing innovativeness.
For instance, there is a land that was abandoned by mechanics in north west of Washington
DC. The community members transformed the land in to a place of community farming.
Activity Response
The topic of organic food production has saturated the contemporary food production
environment. Proponents of organic farming argue that it has positive impacts to the health
and wellbeing of individuals and populations. I believe that the conventional farming
