For creating the effective inclusion and wellbeing of the students like Kylie
so that they can gain access to the equal education that can help in
realizing her potential, she needed additional supports, services and
programs in place. As a preservice teacher, we believe that it’s important
to work with child’s eye specialities to get the seating plan right. With
Kylie’s visual acuity of 6/60, she will need to seat in the front row but
probably she still finds it difficult to see the blackboard clearly. Teacher
needs to provide different seating areas that can be best for children like
Kylie. The people having albinism have the sensitive eyes which means
they should not be seated where daylight reflect directly into their eyes.
They should not be seated underneath the harsh overhead lights. With
Kylie’s condition, she will also struggle to read from overhead projector
screen due to glare therefore the teacher need to provide her printed
resources before or after class.
However, font size of normal printed resources is not suitable with Kylies’
distance vision acuities. Teacher should check with her whether she needs
specific handouts and texts that should be enlarged to various sizes.
Kylies’ judgment with respect to which books should be enlarged is one
significant component in the decision process. The teacher normally can
get large type versions of regular classroom textbook from different
sources that recreate texts in bigger font size. In some cases, the
educational agency has to photo-enlarge the textbook themselves to suit
this type of needs. The handouts that have been prepared by the teacher
should also be enlarged so that it can fit the needs of the students.
Kylie may prefer to use tape recording rather than large copy. Teacher
may allow her to use audiobooks when there is too much materials to be
read. Some books come with audio text CD, download online digital
formats to a computer or use screen reader on any devices. She will adapt
rapidly to adjust screens to meet her issues and having her own handheld
tools or device that will help her in meeting the challenges. It would be
able to help her in seeing the board that can aid the process of her
learning. Additionally, teacher can record him/herself explaining material
then give it to her to listen in the class or in her own time. There also
speech to text software that Kylie can use when it comes to writing
assignment. This software may enable her to translate her voice to text on
any website or word documents and it also allows more than 100
languages. Apart from that, teacher also need to provide kylie an extra
time for every tasks that given.
For reading problems, the student may utilize stand magnifiers, hand-held
magnifiers, or particular glasses for reading such bifocals with a solid
reading focal point or telescopic reading focal points clipped over glasses.
In today’s modern technology services such as ESight electronic glasses
may help her to have fully functional vision. ESight is given to the
individuals who have the vision problem so that they can see in a better
manner. They are wearable and they have the hands headsets that has a
little, fast camera that catches everything the person see. The caught live
