Strengths
Parent or guardian’s view:
It is important to know and understand that the grandmother has a protective mind-set for her
grandchildren which is quite normal and that the various conditions that are required to
maintain the comfort, dignity and esteem as well as wellbeing, physical health and mental
health of the grandchildren is to be found at her home where they are safe and secure and in
her view, her granddaughter and grandson can only live in their father’s house with their father,
if he starts to behave well and good with them and maintain a good behavioural and
psychologically and physically safe and secure environment in his house, around the children.
The strength is that the grandmother shows strong communication skills and strong
guardianship skills towards the wellbeing and health of the children which is a strong assets
under the circumstances.
Child or young person’s view:
is critical that the various reasons that has led to the causation of events and behavioural
change of their father leading to violent aggression is attributed to the death of their mother
and this can be seen as strength for the fact that they still in a position to understand their
father being upset and this emotional resilience can be seen as a strength and as Sam said that
they can take care of themselves, this is he himself and his sister, is another strength and can
be used to full effect by the social worker to develop and progress the lives of the children.
Needs
Parent or guardian’s view:
According to grandmother, the various types of the children are esteem, dignity, safety and
security of the children and that the various types of the physical health and mental health
needs are also very significant and prominent as the very aspects of the bruising and mental
trauma left by the recent actions of her son in-law has impacted their adolescent quality of life
in a great manner.
Child or young person’s view:
As they have shifting identity and shifting self-image needs during the adolescent phases, the
needs of the children are dignity and sense of protection and security that they must have at
their parent’s home and the sense of belongingness and as well as feelings of protection in
their home and it is important the needs are met properly.
5.2 Achieving in all areas of learning and development
Going to school or training
Attitude towards school and learning
Learning and developing
Getting on with others
Aids and barriers to getting on with
others
Confidence and responsibility
Strengths
Parent or guardian’s view:
As the children are traumatized – the grandmother shows interest to rebuild their esteem,
confidence and social interactions through more social as a well as correct building of
interpersonal relationships The grandmother herself is confident and she trusts herself that she
can take good care of the children as well as that of their social and personal development at
her home – which is a strength.
