INTRODUCTIONMedical professionals are responsible to provide the best care services to patients. Theyhave to examine their situation well and accordingly have to provide them treatment. Presentstudy is based on the case study of Charlie Gard. Charlie was suffering fromencephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome (MDDS) (Norman and et.al,2015). In initial phase he was perfect but later on, he was admitted to great Ormond streethospital (GOSH) for diagnosis. He was found with severe brain damages due to which he wasunable to move his eyes and legs. Now, he is unable to take breath that is why he needs supportof ventilator. Medical professionals of US have suggested NBT therapy to his parents. Butdoctors of GOSH have ruled out this treatment. Doctors have stated to switch off the ventilatorand allow Charles to die with dignity because now, there is no solution for improving his health.But his parents have filed case in the court where judge has taken decision in the favour ofhospital (Glasby, 2017). Present study will discuss the ethical issues in Charles Gard's case. Furthermore, it willdiscuss ways to increase respect for Charles dignity. In addition, it will explain impact of thiscase on the values and development. Report will describe the ways through which such type ofsituations can be resolved effectively. TASK 1a) Ethical issues in Charlie Gard's caseCharles Gard is the 11 month old baby who has spent his entire life on the hospital bed.He is diagnosed by MDDS and doctors of GOSH who have found severe brain damages withinCharles. Now, he is unable to move eyes and legs. He is living with the support of ventilator.Many other treatments such as NBT has been applied for improving his condition (Phelan andMcCormack, 2016). After putting so many efforts to save the child, doctors have come to theconclusion that he is suffering from huge pain and now, they need to switch off his ventilator andallow to die with dignity. Ethical issues in the case of Charles Gard case are discussed as below:Freedom is the major ethical issue that has been identified in the present case scenario.As family members of Charles wanted to improve the health of their child but doctors wereforcing parents to switch off ventilator (Dominelli, 2017). When doctors have come to theconclusion that his condition cannot be improved, it is essential to allow him to die with dignity.1
