AI Summary
This report, based on a foundation of social research, investigates the relationship between good prison management and insider prison violence. It begins by outlining a research strategy, emphasizing the importance of defining key terms like 'prison management' and 'prison violence' and establishing criteria for source selection. The report then analyzes two relevant journal articles: one examining human rights in prison and the other focusing on violence experienced by incarcerated Aboriginal women. The analysis assesses the appropriateness of the research, highlighting how the articles address the research question and meet established criteria. The report also reflects on the limitations of the research literature, such as the challenges in isolating variables and the lack of comprehensive policy testing, while underscoring the importance of prisoners' knowledge of human rights. Ultimately, the report concludes that the research successfully identifies the association between prison management and insider violence, emphasizing the need for equitable treatment and the upholding of human rights within the prison system. The findings highlight the need for improved prison management practices to reduce violence and ensure fair treatment of all prisoners, including vulnerable groups such as Aboriginal women.

Research question: Is There an association between good prison management and insider
prison violence?
Research strategy
For an effective research strategy, researcher should make sure that they identify the topic
in appropriate manner such that they know how to research for the particular topic so that they
may easily attain the research question. In the same way, for the current study the research
question is “Is There an association between good prison management and insider prison
violence?” As per the view of Cottrell (2019) there are different steps which are involved in the
development of the strategy such that
From the research question, define all the key terms that helps to link between the
research and research questions. In which the researcher may easily determine the
articles relate to this. For instance, as per the topic, research should be based upon two
specific terms i.e. prison management, prison violence. Therefore, by specifying the term
will help to proceed ahead.
Next step is build the search term database, in which the researcher find the background
information related to this by using secondary research. As a result, by developing a
research database, the researcher may easily generate the results by meeting the research
questions.
Next step is to create the additional criteria for incorporation and exclusion. For the
current study, there are four basic criteria which needs to be met by the researcher i.e.
empirical, social science, reputable source and important or influential etc.
Next step is to determine the collection of a knowledge which will use for the literature In
which the researcher find the way or a strategy to reach the defined research questions.
Moreover, for better research, researcher may also divide the sentence into smaller parts
so that it will be more easy for them to search ( Mooney and Daffern, 2015 ).
Lastly, design a research approach through which further helps to determine the variables
in the analysis. For instance as per the research question, we are actually considering the
'good prison' from the questions and then decide the complexity of the problem.

In addition to this, it is observe that by following the strategy, the research questions are
fulfilled and also help to meet the defined questions as well. Moreover, this research strategy
helps to find out the Journal which is appropriate for the question so that it will assist to conduct
the research in more better way.
Research key aspects
We selected two Journal articles which is relevant to the research. Therefore, title and
abstract are two selection criteria for the current research and these two article are as mention:
Article 1:
Citation: Naulor. B., 2015. Researching human rights in prison. International Journal for
Crime, Justice and Social Democracy .4(1): 79-95.doi:10.5204/ijcjsd.v3i2.209
Research question: How prison can be made more Humane and how human rights concept
might be useful?
Methods: To conduct the research in better way, research chooses mixed methods with semi-
structure narrative interviews by using different theoretical models and theories for literature.
Findings: From the research, it is find out that being treated with respect and dignity by staff and
having decision which is further affected the overall daily lives of people live in Australia. Even
they also state that they are not treated like a human being and from the article, it is also find out
that human rights and formal rights are two instrument triggers concern for staff and
management because it is claim by prisoners. Further, article also shows that the prisoners are
not treated equally and there are human rights for the prisoners which may be used by them.
Additionally, government also made different policy which should be used and implemented in
prison so that prisoners may not find any challenges.
Article 2:
Citation: Wilson, M., Jones, J., Butler, T., Simpson, P., Gilles, M., Baldry, E., Levy, M. and
Sullivan, E., 2017. Violence in the lives of incarcerated Aboriginal mothers in Western
Australia. Sage open.7(1). p.2158244016686814.
Research question: Do women feel any violence in prison?
Methods: To conduct the research in better way, researcher uses descriptive data analysis by
using qualitative research methods in which interviews is used. Further, chi- square test is also
used under quantitative data analysis to determine the relationship between two variables.

Findings: from the article, it is find out that the rate of women in prison is increases up to 8%
from last many years and as a result, there is an increase rate of female especially for aboriginals
as compared to non- aboriginals women. Further, from the article it is also analyzed that the
women's use of violence against an intimate partner may also modify the abusive behavior of
partner. Additionally, from the article it is also find out that support fro the impact of lifestyle
factor in offending, which also includes the use of harmful products in prison that is consider a
reason for violence In prison.
Moreover, it is also find out that using chi- square test, there is a little difference in the
terms of demographics, criminographic and pattern of substance between women such that non-
violent and violent.
Appropriateness of research
From the article 1, we have identified that in prison, the human rights are misused by the
management and as a result, it creates negative impact upon the society. From the research, it is
actually verified that the in Australia, prisoners are not treated like a normal human being and
even all the human rights are violated as well (Rice, Meyerson and Ogg, 2014). Therefore, from
this article, researcher easily answer the research question i.e. Is There an association between
good prison management and insider prison violence? While, on the other side, this article is not
base only on the Australia people but it also target the people at global level, which also reflect
the appropriateness of the research and also justifies that it met almost all four criteria i.e.
empirical, social science, reputable source and important or influential.
On the other side, from the article 2, it is also identified that from the last many years, the
imprisonment rate of Women is growing and the chances of violence is also increases. Therefore,
it creates a wrong example in front of society which should be removed. Further, the article also
creates a link with research question such that it describe how bad practices are used in the
prison and in turns, it become violence for the public. As the article is completely based upon the
aboriginal women and how women in Australian prison are suffered. Therefore, through the
article, it is found that behavior in prison is completely against the women and it is further
empirical or verified with the primary data which is used in this article (Owers, 2014). Thus, it is
clearly reflected the appropriateness of the research and also determine that all the four criteria
are met.

Reflection on the research literature
The overall experienced of the research is quite good and interesting such that it helps me
to gain knowledge related to the topic that is “Is There an association between good prison
management and insider prison violence?” from the second article, author determine
limitation from the study such that they are not being able to isolated women who had uses
violence form the male partners who are further violent. Another limitation is such that women
who belongs to aboriginals are not easily understand the violence done in prison while on the
other side, non- aboriginal women easily understand this (Harding and Palasinski, 2016).
Further, from the article 1, the limitations are such that it was difficult for the prisoners to know
the negative decision because the prisoner officer may be obstructive and as a result, it leads to
affect the safety concerns as well. Another limitation of the research is such that there is no
proper protection available for the prisoners and as a result, their rights got affected.
Moreover, the importance of the research is to describe or recognize the factors which
may affect the research in negative way. While on the other side, for conducting the research,
articles did not test many policies and practices and as a result, it is consider as a shortcoming in
the literature as well. Seymour (2018) stated that prisoners should also have enough knowledge
related to human right instruments in order to balance the competing rights. Further, in order to
attain the research question, these article help to determine the actual environment feel by
prisoners in jail which is not good because their human right are affected. Overall, with the help
of these article, the social problems is analyzed which is to identify that There an association
between good prison management and insider prison violence. Actually, the good prison
management is treating all prisoners equally, but actually it is not so, even in the case of women
aboriginals as well. Thus, it should be control so that it will leave a good impression among
society and people as well so that it will help in the growth of country.
