Understanding
Time management can be defined as the process of planning as well as exercising the control of
time which is spent on various activities (Kirillov, Tanatova, Vinichenko & Makushkin, 2015).
The purpose of the time spent on different activities can be different as it can be for increasing
the effectiveness, efficiency or the desired productivity of a particular organization. It is of great
importance for a person to schedule the preferred activities in a proper time frame. Moreover, it
needs to be understood that failing to manage the time, critically damages the effectiveness and
gives rise to stress.
Identifying Central Themes and Ideas
There are a few of the important major themes in time management. The first theme reveals the
development and creation of the environment which remains conducive to effectiveness. The
second theme is to set the desired priorities to execute concerned tasks. Thirdly, for managing
the preferred time, the relevant activities should be carried out based on prioritization (McHugh,
Hall, McLeod, Kovelowski & Payne, 2018). Next, there should be a reduction of time on the
non-prioritized work. Moreover, there needs to be proper incentives for modifying the behavior
that will ensure compliance with the time-related deadlines.
The ideas related to the time management critically evaluate the fact that it helps in facilitating
the effectiveness of project management and attention management associated with the
concerned activities. In managing a particular project, the time management is considered to be
the essential subset which increases the effectiveness of planning and scheduling of the desired
project. There are few more ideas which needs to be taken in priority while managing particular
time; these are knowing own goals, prioritizing wisely, planning and eliminating the distractions.
Summarizing key ideas and arguments
There have been different arguments in favor and against the aspects of time management. It as
ben evaluated by some people that time management does not allow for spontaneity and it is
applicable for those people who follow a particular routine. Some people love to schedule their
work as per their own choice, and they like to have flexibility and variations in their concerned
activities. Some people argued that they who like to work in a proper schedule by which they can
utilize their every time to bring out more productive work, which finally helps in facilitating their

overall performance and growth (Oettingen, Kappes, Guttenberg & Gollwitzer, 2015). It is a
matter of the fact that different people have different choices and some people are strongly in
favor of time management as they believe that following the techniques of time management
increases the efficiency and productivity of a concerned organization.
Evaluation of argument
The arguments concerning time management can be considered to be vital as it helps in
evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of time management in daily activities. Oettingen,
Kappes, Guttenberg & Gollwitzer, (2015) argued that the development of a proper schedule and
setting up of objectives along with the daily activities on priority helps in bringing positive
outcomes for the concerned person. Fewer people have said that they work better under pressure
rather than working in a proper schedule, but it has also been seen that working under pressure
might hamper the desired quality of the executed work processes (Putnam, Sungkhasettee &
Roediger III, 2016).
